'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dave Nugent - quite simply yes!

Yes, David Nugent will do the busy for Pompey! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from The Rabbi's poll are thoughts that I would agree with.

I think that without beating about the bush what the poll was asking was, do you think Nugent can hack it with Pompey, and will he make the grade - clearly most do...

My own thinking has always been that given a run in the side he will deliver and he will go on to be a quality footballer for club and country, so letting him go would be a mistake.

We are a patient bunch, so we will give him time, so he has to make sure he takes these chances should he be given them - which he really should be given in the month ahead.

What the poll asked - David Nugent?

How you voted - Yes 62%, No 38%

Current Poll - We have been told 'not to panic' by Peter Storrie as signings will come.

He has said that we are working on deals at the moment and he hopes that we can conclude 2 by the weekend, but do you think we will - this is what pompeyrug wants to know with this - 'will we sign a player by the weekend as Peter Storrie hopes?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

I really want Nuge to make it - I do sometimes have doubts about him, although at the same time I do like him as a player. I think its important we give him the chance he needs to shine.

he needs a run of games, bits and peices here and there are no good... some are judging him on the sunderland game - but that is unfair, no one was good, but he has his moment - and in all fairness the lone striker role isnt something for him is it, by the time benji joined him up top we had all but thrown the towel in even with 45 minutes to play...

Yeah I agree cameo appearances do not allow any player to get into the flow of a game, you really need a good 40 minutes or so minimum. Thing is we own him now so why go out and spend more money on another young striker. He didn't really get any service from the midfield and as a result he was dropping deep to try and pick the ball up. Additionally we don't seem to have teams banging on the door trying to get him so can we really afford to have a 6m player warming our bench plus spending out 8m plus for the likes of Defoe?....

sorry....dont agree at all!!!! I have nothing against the bloke, but he really dosnt fit the bill for me. I just want to say now that my comments are not just on the basis of the Sunderland game, & I can apriciate that the serivce was crap for him that night, but god!!!! Benji was 1000 times more livley than Nuge, the guy hardly faced the goal! he seemed to want to pass back & setup as if he was a holding player! NO NO NO!!! he needs to be running at the defenders, trying to turn them!!....i dont think his much cop at all! a mistake panic buy!...sorry boys...hes not for me!

I'm with Charlie. I agree that you have to give players time but at least when we gave Benjani time he worked hard and looked good on the ball. Just his finishing was absolutely *****. Still is in fact! Nugent, runs his socks off then falls over or runs on the totally wrong side of the ball. He just doesn't look good on the ball and he looks easy to get off the ball.

I'm still (just) on the hope he makes it/would like to see him make it side of the fence but the more I see of him the more I start to question whether or not he can or can not make it.... 62% said yes... that poll was running at abuout 78% yes before Sundays game... a few are changing their minds... For me he's got Plymouth and Derbt lft to show what he can do... I hope he proves Charlie & Still wrong.. but I've a sneaking doubt that he might not..

While this isn't gonna happen, would like to see us get a Michael Owen type striker & team him up with Nugent (even an Andy Johnson might work). I just think he's one of those forwards who needs a partner up front & given the right partnership he'd be a goalmine

harry has shown to be patient with other players, so If he indeed is impatient with nuge, it may be that he doesnt see something in him what he saw in other players that he waited for (which is worrying indeed). Also, like many of you noted it is the support for the forwards that is lacking the most. I understand that our striker situation is poor be we have 4 guys who can play there, but only Utaka (out of position) who can play on the right. I dont know how you can have a team without a right sided midfielder, that is what we need to invest in!! and if we do get a decent right midfielder it would give kranjcar more room to work and it would surely improve out ineffective forwards!

Toronto - that is a point I made elsewhere after Blunderland Away. He is not target man but will run with the ball or feed off another player. Do that and we will see the best of hom I'm sure.

only 62% say yes??? last time i checked, it was up at 92% - how did it fall so much? 38% saying no doesnt really suggest we are a patient bunch at all, as before the game it was definatly well in the 90s, and it fell 30ish% in just a few days after one poor perfomance? thats not patient!!!

He is not the striker we need, he just does not look the part and the longer he takes to score the worse it will become. He is a Championship striker and no more, we do not have time to nurture him and try to make a Premier player out of him, he cost us 6 million pounds and we need a 15-20 goal player pretty quick, and alas Nugent is not that player.

i dont agree he is a championship striker and nor did 7 other clubs last season, it is true he has not worked hard in training and he is mot the man top play the loan striker, bui think is he is a 4,4,2 player and i have no doubt he has the ability to score. Its a bit difficult to undertsand the lack of patience for a man who has hardley started becuase of harrys tactical choice when we have played Kanu and Utaka who have contributed nothing for 3 months.

Nugent is a great striker - when we play 4-4-2. i know that we played 4-4-2 at the end of the last match, but we never really settled down in that, and no-one had a good game - but in all pour other cup games, we have mostly played with 2 upfront, and he has played extremly well. i know he possibly isnt the finished article YET - but the only way a club like us is going to bring players through is by being patient. he was expensive, and im sure he will be a great part of the club - IN THE FUTURE. He took a l;ong time deciding to come down here, when he started training, he was awfull - he has put extra effort in, his game has improoved - and another year, and i reckon he will become a top class striker...

completely agree with russ in a post above... too many people have been on nuge's back from the off, why is it some will give say benji plenty of time yet some wont give nuge any? when you are rarely given a chance it is hard to say 'you are a flop'...
