Defoe interest stepped up...

...well it is according to 'reports' in today's papers.

They are saying that Harry Redknapp is to step up his pursuit of Jermain Defoe and will ask Sacha Gaydamak to give him the funds to make an approach.

This 'link' has been a long and tedious one that just will not go away no matter what, so lets see once and for all if Defoe really would be interested in moving to Pompey, or if he sees us as 'too small' by making this approach if he is the striker that Redknapp wants.

Spurs are prepared to sell if he wants to go, so as said lets see what the score is. Not everyone is keen on Defoe but he will score goals, and this is what we have been lacking from our strikers this season.

no bluedr thats what they say to shut media up, and stop clubs inflating prices. they see money, and price doubles. i have heard lita is in pompey, and taylor is in reading, so lets see if that comes to anything????

Do you think Harry does have any spending money?

if we bid good money and had this accepted for fred then we must have money dont we think? taylor has been waiting for a reading interest, so if it comes - or has - then he'd love to go there, lita wants to leave so a deal could happen...

After yesterdays display we do need 2 or 3. Lita, yes wouldn't mind that does add genuine pace to our attack. Still think we need a midfielder and would go for Sidwell on loan from Chelsea. Also right winger, what position does that Hunt play for Reading?

HR claims he had no sweeteners offered to make him stay - pay rise, transfer kitty etc. - but this has to be the week that we make a move in the market. It was clear to see yesterday that we need reinforcements if we are to reach our goal of Europe. I have the feeling this might be a busy week.

Defoe will go to Villa if he goes anywhere, Lita is probably an option but i dont think he really wants to leave, i dont think we will do much business and the month will be a disaster for us. I really feel we are going to be let down by the club, and it will be our fault for not looking at the bigger picture.

Harry really wants him, can we afford him or can we not afford to have him?

welcom saints bloke, i thought you jam rags from down the road had all but dissappeared. Defoe is not one for the single striker role that HR loves, he is not what you would call a workaholic now is he, i would maybe prefer to give Lita a chance.

Good vote by the rabbi, i was considering this on the flight home and i have come to the conclusion that whilst it was obvious that he lost confidence half way through the second half it is vote Nugent yes for me. I think we are paying the price a bit for Harry (yes i criticise the messiah) sticking with Kanu and thereby not allowing Nugent & Benji the chance to strike up that all important understanding. Rug and i have discussed this and I think it is something that we should have been doing weeks ago.

Would love Defoe but I think his destiny will be sealed by what Fred does - If Fred comes here (which I doubt .. Pompey over Spurs & PSG !) but if he does we don't need Defoe.. If Spurs get Fred then Defore is surplus to requirements ad will probably move... But I fear to Villa too as Owens suggested.. but he might just be tempted to FP. We have money to spend it's just where to spend it.. All it takes is a big club to sign a striker and then the merry go round starts up in earnest..

Well for one, we have more money than u! and to be honest no offense but Villa Park is a more attractive proposition that Fratton Park. To be honet if he had to make a decision between the two clubs i am almost certain he would choose us. Disagree?

villavillavilla - yes, i disagree. given the choice between our 2 clubs, he would retire, and stay to living on the spurs bench...it must be so comftable, the way he refuses to go anywhere else?!?! no, he is far to lazy, far to willing to sit on the bench - and not the kind of player we want at portsmouth. Frad, maybe - but i doubt very much we will get either. stick to trying to nab scum talent or reading stikers for now!

what scares me is that defoe seems happy to stay at spurs and not playing (sorry i mean fight for his place)..... he is either lazy or the most competitive fighter since rocky balboa!

Mateja Kezman would be such a better signing then Defoe. Kezman is intelligent and has a kind of agressivity which is lacking at portsmouth.

I just don't get Defoe .... Why with a ne England manager in situ is he willing to sit on the Surs bench as their 4th striker and not move.. even with speculation that Sours are after Fred he still sits there as does nothing... Lazy? I don't kno about that.. but deluded surely.. He is clearly not wanted so why not move whether that be to Villa or Pompey or even say.. Bristol City.. at least he would be playing week in week sat at Spurs he is just rotting away.. says a lot about his character to me

Would be an excellent addition to the club, a natural goalscorer and could take you furthet up the league.
