Who or what do Pompey need/want?

Harry Redknapp has decided to stay, he can now turn his attentions fully towards the new signings that he has always wanted, which are certainly needed - defeat to Sunderland at the weekend proved this.

The links with many are growing and growing, with this list almost endless but the question is, what - positional wise - and/or who - player wise - do you think we need and could realistically get.

We all have our thoughts and opinions on this very subject so lets put our money where our mouths are and say what we feel - just leave your thoughts below...

Positional wise. in order of priority .. 1) at least one striker who can bag 10-15 goals a season... Benjani won't do that for us unfortunatley, I love the guy but he doesn't have that killer instinct, Kanu will never score that many in a season these days and Nugent (i'm sad to say) doesn''t look like he's gonna cut it this season, if at all 2) A right winger/midfielder.. if we are to gonna play 451 then we need somebody on the right who can do what Niko does on the left, and also get round the back of the defence and stick crosses in. Harry clearly isn't gonna swap Matty & Nico (I've no idea why) so we do need that position covered. Again (sadly) what we have seen of Utake so far shows he doesn't have the consistency (yet) to do this ..3) A creative midfielder..Somebody who can either play that killer pass or run at defences somebody in the Gerrard/Fabregas role who is comfortable getting forward as well and 4) Cover for Centre half or Left back.. with Cranie and Linvoy out we need at least a loanee covering I'm not convinced anybody (except maybe Johno is up to covering Solid or Dist and we don't have a recognised left back of any quality Pamarot and Hermann are ok squad players but are not good enough long term.... As for who they might be I'll have a think and come back..

Creativity - simple as that. And apart from that, EVERYthing Chix has said. I cannot better it.

I wonder how much a tactical brain would cost Harry?

we will be linked with almost every player around, defoe or crouchy would still be my pick for a striker... 'apparently' we 'will' make a move this week for defoe, so lets do it and see if he would come. im really coming round to the idea of getting d'alessandro back, we need that creativity, so if we have the cash and he can be signed lets do it.

That's very well thought out Chix, can't argue with it. I hope you're wrong about Nuge - I'm still trying to keep the faith with him, he didn't really get a decent opportunity yesterday, and it was his first league start in ages. I also worry that with Ashdown currently injured, the only cover we have for Jamo is the young, promising but inexperienced keeper Begovic. I know Jamo's always there, but you never know.

Yes I agree mostly with Chix but where do we find the 50m to fund them? Over to our wheeler-dealer HR.

tracy I agree about Nugent he got no service yesterday and had very little support. He is not a striker to hold the ball up ar win much in the air i.e. he needs a partner.

keep faith with nugent - his nrole clearly doesnt suit 4-5-1 - but i wouldnt say he cant make it as a stiker. i think that we need a creative midfielder most, then a striker, then a right midfielder.

If we need one thing, I'd say its a creative midfielder who can see the pass that will unlock their defense. We've tried kicking it over the opposition, and trying to run through the opposition, neither with much sucess! So we need a new approach! Don't know who though! Knowing Harry he's probably keeping tabs on potential new signings in the ACoN!
