Formal approach received

Newsnow is awash with stories over Redknapp and Newcastle, some a re-hashes, some even have quotes from Peter Storrie as though he has just spoken, but anyone who listened to our local earpiece the Quay last night will recognise his words.
Whilst searching for anything new though, I found The News reporting that an official approach has been received, if it was accepted is not clear.
This weekend will tell us much, I'm sure that Harry is listening to his Clash CD as we speak 'Should I stay or should I go?' but will the homefires be too good to leave?

paultsmouth approaches and refusals are not really the point, if he wants to go he will, he will have already had the chat through a third party and how can you keep a non motivated manger especially one as emotional as harry. For me the issue is are the club being professional and actively looking for a quality replacement and ensuring the captain stays solid at this critical juncture

If he is to leave, I want him to go now and not drag it, he is obviously going to sleep on any offer, but lets face it, he has probably known about any offer for a couple of days at least, secondly if he does depart, I would like to think he would show the club a little respect and not rape and pillage the players he considers his.

He wont go is my prediction, let's hope I'm right because the prospect of Donkey Adams stepping up is not great

Spot on Russell. He will probably have made his mind up and it has come at the wrong time for Pompey because HR is on a low after arrest and no investment in window.

i would feel let down if harry left. i dont think he will, but the posibilty is casting a shadow of any prospects for the club. inseidentally, sky sports are saying we have put in/accpeted (i cnt remember) £9million bids for Fred.

I've just read the stuff on Fred, which seems pretty genuine although why Spurs would bid £2m more is beyond me. Is Berbatov on his way? Has the Anelka move opened the market? I.e. Bolton will buy Taylor, Utd will buy Berbatov to match the Anelka move and there will be a tussle for Fred between us and Spurs?

the problem is, untill the manager thing is sorted, i doubt we will be signing too many players. and the 9million seems like a lot for a club not willing to spend.

in fact, this "fred" link ties up a lot of loose ends - harry missed a press confrance to talk to a player, Fred flew to england to talk to pompey and spurs today. the two are almost certainly linked...and if harry is having talks with fred, then it suggests that he ants to sign him for pompey - which can only be good!

I see Mandaric reckons he will go, Smith didn't last night but tonight admits he has discussed it with Harry, it all seems to boil down to Harry sitting in an armchair in 10 years time thinking "What If?"

I agree with Carpet that the Fred link is one way to look at this situation - if we sign Fred over the next 24 hours then we know Harry ain't goin !

The Fred signing could be pivotal, if he signs Harry will stay, if he doesn't it will further prove we are not a glamour club and that Harry will not be able to compete when the likes of Spurs and Newcastle rival him for a player, maybe this will be a deciding factor?

I have posted on here b4, although not a regular, so don't all shout at me as a ***** stirrer, cos im not, im a hudds town and football fan, this situ interest me, because I cant really understand why HR would want to go to Newcastle. 1. nobody ever succeeds their, so its a big risk, 2 HR is definitely southern, and Newcastle is about as far removed from the South as you can get, both geographically and culturally. 3. Pompey can attract players that Newcastle can, I know where i would go if i were a player defo Pompey, a better team currently. If I were on the inside at the club, I would make HR some long term commitments about his future, future investment in playing staff etc, and a deal he could talk to one of the big four n England if approached. I would be very disappointed if I were a Fratton regular both with the club and indeed HR himself if he left for Newcastle, to me it would be a dreadful move for both club n HR, in terms of the future and reputation wise. I must be missing something, like a brain, it makes no sense to me. Good luck.

tonytime - spot on...or at least exactly the same as my FIRST reaction. however, as time goes on, and i read more and more about it, doubt creeps into my mind, and it just seems unlikely that he will stay. money talks. but you are spot on, that there is no bovious reason why he would want to move. it could only be about the funding.

im trying to understand why he would want to go - the set-up is all in place - but i keep saying to myself 'how could he do this again'... i will never forget what he has done for us but should he leave again like this his legacy will not be the one that it could, or even should have been... i want to start focusing on the weekend game, but also want things sorted sooner rather than later - lets hope it is sorted tomorrow, if he could be leaving i cant see how he could pick the team on sunday, or be involved, if he isnt - and hasnt gone by then - that would surely mean he is staying... all hypotherical thoughts tho!

I've sat at this screen for nigh on 5 hours now pondering his move. Tomorrow when I wake, I'm expecting the expected and a fit of rage will take over me. Reading The Times online has put the final nail in the coffin for me. I just hope Sacha acts quick to get someone in whilst we're challenging for Europe and an interesting prospect for a 'top' manager. We deserve a manager with charisma - a fans favourite.

Aye rug, we deserve Harry Redknapp finishing his job properly. I can't bare the thought of him sitting in the away dugout and would rather miss the game. It's like your missus cheating on you and then turning up to a party at your house with her new fella. The Times report that we've given Harry until lunchtime to make his decision.

agreed re the legacy, it won't be the same for him if HR goes for the move. To be honest although I am a bit on the sidelines it will sadden me if he does go, because its another nail in the football competitive coffin. Do the right thing Harry ! ffs, that for footballs sake !

Harry stays or Harry goes- what does it matter? If he goes reports suggest that Sasha will get up to 8 million from Newcastle. Pompey have an interim replacement in Tony Adams. The biggest worry we have will be at the end of the season. Will Adams stay on if a new manager is brought in? Will Jordan follow Harry to Newcastle? Will some players jump ship without Harry to protect them? None of this will happen if Pompey get to Europe and Tony Adams is in charge. But will he succeed if he gets the chance. Time will tell on all counts. If Harry stays he will have a largely sceptical fan base, much less support from the club and an owner who can then weld a big stick if he wants. I would have liked to see Harry shown the door at the end of the season not right now. During the summer Pompey would have more time to choose a new manager. If it is deemed wise to appoint an outside replacement I would like to see us go for Steve Coppell. He is one of the few English managers that I think has it in him to guide a team to the top of the EPL.

agree about steve coppel, disagree abput adams. i think he needs to get a bit of managerial experiance, before jumpinng into the hot seat. For Harry, it is a simple choice. Does he stay, and remain a legend at the football club - one that will be remembered probbly for ever, or does he go, and attempt to convert a failing footbakk club back intoi a great one - in doing so making more money - and possibly earning a place at the fore front of a new era at newcastle? Newcastle is risky, and the achievment is much smaller. Pompey is worse paid, but he cant fail to achieve, and be a succsess - and have the full support of the fans.

in response to your earlier comment rug the set up is not in place. the training ground planning is rejected, the stadium is at best 5 years away> Pompey bid 9 million bid for Fred when my french colleagues say that his club have clearly said that they want 10.5 as a minimum and spurs are likely to offer that. Lets say they accept our bid, will he come once his agent tells him his new genius manager is off.

At the start of the season I was having trouble registering on Vital and i then went away. With the help of Rug my log in is now working. Back at the start of the seaon I sent an article to Rug predicting a few things about Pompey , Harry and Sasha. I wont give the full article but suffice to that I said Harry would jump ship or be sacked during or at the end of the season, Sasha would sell Pompey and the stadiunm etc would not be built while Sasha was the owner as he doesn't have the money and it is only a PR exercise by him to attract a bigger offer for the club and that he would spend only enough on players to ensure we stay a premier team in the top half of the league as he will get an even better price. I said that for Sasha , Pompey was a business and would be treatd as a business to be sold at a big profit.Buyers were and still are interested in buying Pompey and have spent a lot of money investigating the club. Although there are the usual denials from the club, why would anyone pend mega nmoney on this f they knew for sure the club wasn't for sale.

Sorry for the spelling errors etc in my post.Do you think it is by chance we are suddenly looking at Asian players to come to Pompey. There are some very good Asian players who just need a chance. But also there is a lot of big Asian money looking for a major presence in European and English sport. At the start of the season Rug was somewhat aghast at my article but in the light of recent events , is it so out on a limb now?
