Nugent is ready to be 'unleashed'

After scoring the winning goal against Ipswich last weekend Dave Nugent is straining at the leash to be given a chance against Sunderland this weekend, to try and prove that he is worthy of his place in the premier league.

Harry Redknapp has been unconvinced by him for the most part this season and The News have said that he has had concerns about his 'performance in training'.

However Nugent has been putting in extra shifts to improve his fitness and prove that he is up for the fight and he is hoping that this, and his goal against Ipswich will help him get a start that he deserves against Sunderland on Sunday.

I have been very impressed with him recently, and against Ipswich he was almost unplayable for around 20 minutes or so after he came on and made a huge difference. Yep, David James' saves ensured we won, but his goal ultimately won us the tie.

It all depends on what formation that Redknapp plays - if he is still here? - if he goes for his usual 4-5-1, unless he moves Benjani out to the right I am not sure that he will be given the start that he deserves to be honest, as much as I - and the cast majority of you - would like to see...

I think this is Nuge's time - he going to shut everybody up and once he starts hitting the back of the net there'll be no stopping him.
tracyc
Got to be time now to give him a chance. Cmon nugget.
blueape
I hope he does well and gets his chance. I really wanted to see him at Rovers but hey ho.
roversman
Yea I have been very happy with his performances over the last couple of premiership games where he came on as a sub, he seems to be ready and psyched to get his chance and do well. I have no doubt he will perform
whitestones
feed the nuge and he will score...
pompeyrug
I think we will play Benjy on the right which is why he didn't play at Portman Road. Go get 'em David!
eastneydave
he been playing well wheneneve he features - so i dont have any worries about him playing well. wha i worry abiout is whether he will get the games!
pompeycarpet
I agree with Eastneydave we'll still have five across the middle with Benji on the right and nuge up front.. If given the chance against these 'championship' sides he could well get off the mark in the premiership... let's hope so I could do with cheering up at the mo !
Chix
i certainly do need cheering up - this specualtion is getting me down!
pompeycarpet
give him a go, the goal at ipswich will have boosted his confidence.
gateway
shame to waste his momentum

i dont like benji playing out on the right but i dont like not seeing benji not play at all! i also want to see nuge play, so i think this could well happen... benji can play that role well, he knows his defensive duties and will get forward in support of nuge too.
pompeyrug
Nugent for england !!! na only messin he should be given a run tho i reckon he will be ok once he gets off the mark
