Redknapp doesn't want the Toon job

I wrote most of this article yesterday evening to publish this morning, then found an email from pompeycarpet waiting in my inbox last night on this subject so ran with his - but with further 'talk' on the Harry Redknapp for the Toon today, with his saying that he is 'happy on the South Coast' I am now running it, with a few amendments and extensions...

'Fat' Sam Allardyce was sacked as Newcastle boss yesterday - the rights or wrongs of this are not something that I want to go into here and being brutally honest I do not much care...

...what I do care about is the fact that Redknapp is currently the early favourite with the bookies to take over.

Quite why he would want to leave Pompey and go to Newcastle I do not really know, maybe the fact that he would get a lot of money to spend could tempt him with one final challenge before calling it a day - but surely his challenge with us is enough of a challenge for him isn't it.

I cannot see him leaving for Newcastle personally - well at least I hope not - as I would be surprised to see him manage another club other than Pompey before he does call it a day - he has too much to lose by leaving us again doesn't he?

The only reason he would even think about leaving would be if Pompey do not match the ambition that he has... you could argue that not spending this month could be a sign of this - but in all fairness we did spend £30m in the summer, which is something that few of us could have ever imagined seeing us spend in such a short space of time.

Since writing the first half of this article Redknapp has told The Daily Express in a roundabout way that he does not want the job: 'I really do not know anything about this. I have not spoken to anyone from Newcastle.

'When I saw that Sam had left my immediate thoughts were that Alan Shearer was a certainty to take over.

'There's nothing in my being linked with the job. I had an offer not so long ago to take over at what I consider a massive club but I didn't go.

'I am happy down on the South Coast'.

I would have preferred it if he had said 'I'm happy at Portsmouth' but as I say in a roundabout way he has ruled out the job... just about.

Redknapp is a very family orientated man, they are all well settled where they are and have been for several years - so if for nothing else other than that I cannot see him uprooting for what could only be a matter of months or a year or so if that knowing they way Newcastle go through managers - he would be a mug to do so.

I also have this feeling, having slept on it that he will be thinking along the lines of 'once bitten twice shy' in regards to leaving Pompey for 'another challenge'.

Whilst I would be happier if he came out an categorically stated he was not interested, this will do me for the time being - maybe these latest links with another job can convince Sacha Gaydamak to give him a few more quid to spend in this transfer window to ensure he does not go anywhere, it would be interesting to see if we 'coincidentally' saw this now happen...

Don't hold your breath, I think arry would be interested and may even feel he has taken Pompey as far as they can go without major investment. Sacha seems to be like Reggie Perrin with even the players saying they don't see or hear anything about him. Is there a takeover in the offin?

I hope Redknapp shows commonsense and rules himself out of the job. Newcastle are the most deluded club in world footbll.

Bluedr you listen too much to media. I know a Media Mugle, and she tells me that Sol's words were drastically edited to read as though he was worried and unhappy, purely to get a reaction. Sacha has dreams and plans for Pompey. Harry said that he made a mistake leaving first time round as it was personal between him and Milan, and nothing to do with Pompey and Saints etc. So leave the media to cause as many storms for us as they can, as i am confident Harry, Sacha and Sol will all ride the storm knowing that Pompey are still on the up and can weather what ever the media want to stir up.

he could be interested with in the newcastle hotseat, they have half decent players and he would get lot to spend on players so he could make his mark on the team. to be honiest with you i wouldn't complain if liverpool made harry our manager thats how much i rate the man. he has done a great job with you lot then when he left you what happen to you..... you fell apart and very quickly too, then he came back and with in a matter of weeks he had you playing again that just tells you how good he is and to be honiest with not much money either. i would keep everything crossed if i were you lot and start praying because you could well lose a really, really good manager

it just seems way too far for him to go, he likes it where he is - he has no reason to want to leave, as i say 'once bitten twice shy' and all that... yep the barcodes are a big club but only in terms of stature are they bigger than us now, we have a chance to do something special here but we need 'arry for this - it proved last time when we went from a team in the top half to relegation fodder - had he not left before i think we could have already been playing european football. he wont make the same mistake again, a rash decision now would haunt him for the rest of his days...

Why would Arry want to go to Newcastle. Apart from still having a challenge and a job to do at Pompey with his players that he's brought in, we all know he's settled on the south coast and wouldn't want to move from Bournemouth. Plus you'd have to be a complete numpty to take that job. It's a bit like waiting for the bus to the dole office - you know you'll end up there, eventually, you just don't know how long it will take to get there. (Unless your name's Alan Shearer of course).

It's just the media being mischievous and having little else to do at the moment. Like Rug, I'd prefer 'Arry to definitely rule himself out but perhaps that could be construed in a similar way to the dreaded "chairman's vote of confidence" and look how often that turns out.

maybe by not 'completely' ruling it out as i would like and you would he might be thinking that he can true and squeeze a few quid out of sacha for new signings...

Any sane manager looking for a settled future would avoid Newcastle. They are the most deluded club in the Premiership. They deserve Alan Shearer as manager. Harry will play the usual game of 'not ruling himself out' until Pompey up his wages by 5k a week?

Who do Newcastle think they are anyway? They obviously think they're so much better than us if they think Arry would leave Pompey for them. They need a reality check. But if Arry can use it to squeeze some dosh from Sacha then all well and good.

Harry IS going to the Toon so dont fool yourselves. Your new manger is going to be, after a bit of negotiating, the Great Martin Jol; so be happy be very happy.

im probably 70:30 in believing that 'arry will stay - i would be alot happier if he would come out and say 'i dont want the job i want to stay with pompey' rather than just saying 'im happy on the south coast'... i dont want to contemplate him leaving, but if he did... well im not even going there.

i have every confidence in myself as a judge of charactor, telling me that mike ashley would love harry to be the next england manager, and that peter storrie would tell them to f***off - and failig that, harry would tell them to f***off - and failing that, he would do it more politly by saying his wife had just worked out how to get home - and he didnt want the hassle of teaching her the roads round newcatle...

Quite simply.. the Geordies can want all they want.. the other club sites can try and worry us all they want .. The bottom line is I've no come across one single Pompey fan who is in the least bit worried that Harry will go to Newcastle.. it just ain't goning to happen.

They are going to approach this morning, if half the stories are true. a 4-5m a year contract. Use of a private jet to get him from south-north-south & a last chance hurrah at managing a 'big club'. 30m January transfer budget, god knows what he'll get in the summer. It may be too tempting & mayb you can't blame him if he does go. He'll have all the facilities he can dream of which we don't. He'll have a clean slate & cruise thru the next few months & build for next season. A managers loyalty isn't the same as us fans. I'll be gutted if he goes because it is an uncertain future without him. I am now worried.
