United monitoring Johnson?

When having a little look around the internet this morning I came across something that 'claimed' a United interest in Glen Johnson.

Gary Neville is coming towards the end of his time with United and the claims were that old red nose himself Sir Alex Ferguson is watching the right back with a view to a possible £6m bid in the summer?

Johnson has been in fantastic form since he signed for Pompey permanently, such good form in fact that calls for an England recall are coming from all angles. Sadly until we can make that cement step up to the next level we are always likely to find it hard to hold on to our top players, particularly if the 'big 4' come calling.

How true these rumours are I am not sure, but I would say they would not surprise me. So if his progress is maintained throughout the remainder of the season then we might have to brace ourselves for a summer move by United - this is not to say that he would leave, or would even need to be sold however.

Anyway, this is something for another time isn't it...

I'm sure if they bid £8m that harry woudl let Johnson go to Old Trafford. Its not an ideal situation for Pompey but every player has his price. Where's Richard Duffy these days? he's won more caps for wales than he has played games for Pompey. He's replaced ivica Mornar 9who I am sure is still a Pompey player) as the forgotten man at fratton park.

yep, they do - to progress we need to keep our best players - but money talks... your guess is as good as mine as far as duffy is concerned mate... as for mornar, he just wouldnt go would he - everytime you thought he was gone he would crop up again!
pompeyrug
don't know if I believe that rumour, Ferguson would have looked how he coped at Chelsea and taken that into account

dont like it...johnson would love to move to a big club - he wanted to stay at chelski - so would move in a flash - but then he wouldnt get the games, pressure would be heaped on him, and his career would falter again.
pompeycarpet
wouldnt surprise me as he's playing fantastic, and moneywise we could get a good deal, sell him on for lots more, only 6 months on, but he has to stay we cant lose gj, especially as we have no other fit young defenders!

I agree with you fellas that if one of the big clubs made an offer to glen it would get accepted. I sure hope it doesnt happen and I hope harry holds out for a 10+ mill fee cuz if united want him they surely would pay it
whitestones
if united want the best right back the country has at the moment, then make them pay for him! we want to keep him, he is our only creative player at the moment - and one of our few YOUNG defenders. oh, and hes english. dont sell him, please
pompeycarpet
agreed, we need to keep our young defenders!

We are in the middle of the January transfer window and dealing with speculation about something that might happen in the summer... It Fergie wants him he'll have to cough up .. didn't we get Johnno on a four year deal ?.. but as we know Manchester Untied are not affriad to cough up for the right player.... Ferdinand, Carrick etc.. Let's worry about this one come the summer..
Chix
£6m you're having laff. £10m maybe.
storagematt
'ere 'ere Matt best Right Back in the country worth a lot more than £6m.
eastneydave
bloody nightmare, he's been playing like a star this year, he could buy alot of toilet seats with the wages they would offer him.
