'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Thanks but no thanks...

Over the weekend there had been some paper talk that we were interested in Boro captain George Boateng. When I first read this I was not that impressed to be honest fellas, but just put it down as a 'column filler' - but news of such a move has returned in today's papers...

It is being reported that Harry Redknapp wants to tie up a loan move for the veteran in time for our game with Sunderland this weekend.

I think the fella is a decent footballer, but were we not promised that the players arriving would be of 'improved quality to help a European push?'

With all due respect to Boateng - who as I say is a good footballer - the fella cannot even get in a Boro side that is struggling at the bottom end of the league, so how is that improving quality?

Such thoughts might have been shared about others prior to their arrivals in the past and they have come good but I would have to question this move, as only in terms of increasing personnel do I personally think this would help us out...

Actually lost his place to Gary O as I recall. There are rumours that he is not very happy up North and may be looking for a return to the south with Reading interested. Maybe we should get him back!

i heard the rumours of a move to reading - he could team up with matty taylor :-) is it just me not that keen on us making a move for boateng?
pompeyrug
We need loans to cover the ACON and experienced players are best. Boeteng fits the bill and plays where Diop and Sulley will be missing. Makes sense but not permanent though!!
eastneydave
he is a solid player, who was linked with a big club move not to long ago but has fallen from grace...i'd be happy to see him in a pompey shirt tho in the middle of the park, everyone knows we need the cover and on a loan deal few would come better, (wheres the next d'alessandro when we need them???)
Ridgey
He might 'do' on loan to cover the ACoN absences - in that case we need him sooner rather than later.
tracyc
ok, fair enough on loan for a month or 2 might not be bad - no longer tho and certainly not on a permanent basis... by the way welcome to vital pompey Ridgey - not seen you before mate.
pompeyrug
dont want him - unless injuries set in...NEXT

please no, please please no. nothing against the guy, just we want to move forward, getting djeziri is bad enough, boateng would just be terrible, we dont need him!

the rumor was bull anyway, im glad its cleared up

Reading some of the comments here reminds me of when we first heard the " Papa Diop coming to Pompey " rumours, when so many here said he was rubbish. Boateng is only sitting on the bench at Boro because Southgate is a chin scratching idiot (has anyone ever seen him in a TV pose when he was not scratching his chin in a feigned attempt to look intelligent ?). Boateng would be a respectable fill in at reasonable price (especially now that Arry appears to have pushed Matty out the door for good - complete idiocy).

i dunno, u make a good argument, but it all seems a bit pointless to me.
jbaker
and southgate in a suit is one hell of a funny image

I'm not convinced this guys offers us anything new or mproved so it must just be for Diop/Sulley cover and must only be for the duration of the ACN surely... I've never rated the fella (except in his Coventry days) I think the title of the article says it all...Thanks but no thanks....

Love the Southgate observations Toronto ... How true they are ..

i was hoping that the title would say it all - glad it did :-)
