I have said it before but I will say it again, when Glen Johnson returned to Pompey on a permanent basis from Chelsea on deadline day in August to say the jury was split on him would probably not have been true - it was probably more in favour of being against such a return...
He had not really sold himself to the fans in the latter stages of his loan spell last season, nevertheless we all soon agreed that it was a fresh beginning and he should be given a break and a chance to prove that he was up to the task, and how he has done this - many of us, myself included are now more than happy to eat humble pie!
His attacking play has never been called into question, it was his defending and his attitude that seemed suspect, but these two areas have been top drawer - so good in fact that he is not only being tipped for an England recall under Fabio Capello, but it is quite possible that he could become a starter under the Italians reign, something which Harry Redknapp has backed when telling the Daily Express: 'Glen is in great form and I wouldn't swap him for anyone.
'He is definitely one that the England manager should be looking at.
'The lad has everything and has improved his game since he arrived from Chelsea'.
Johnson has been phenomenal since he came back, even with all of my pompey biased opinions aside if there is a better English right back in the country at the moment I would like him to be pointed out - as I have missed him... If the fella is not in the next England squad then there is something seriously wrong with the English game, even more so than many people think.
Johnson for England!
