Johnson for England!

I have said it before but I will say it again, when Glen Johnson returned to Pompey on a permanent basis from Chelsea on deadline day in August to say the jury was split on him would probably not have been true - it was probably more in favour of being against such a return...

He had not really sold himself to the fans in the latter stages of his loan spell last season, nevertheless we all soon agreed that it was a fresh beginning and he should be given a break and a chance to prove that he was up to the task, and how he has done this - many of us, myself included are now more than happy to eat humble pie!

His attacking play has never been called into question, it was his defending and his attitude that seemed suspect, but these two areas have been top drawer - so good in fact that he is not only being tipped for an England recall under Fabio Capello, but it is quite possible that he could become a starter under the Italians reign, something which Harry Redknapp has backed when telling the Daily Express: 'Glen is in great form and I wouldn't swap him for anyone.

'He is definitely one that the England manager should be looking at.

'The lad has everything and has improved his game since he arrived from Chelsea'.

Johnson has been phenomenal since he came back, even with all of my pompey biased opinions aside if there is a better English right back in the country at the moment I would like him to be pointed out - as I have missed him... If the fella is not in the next England squad then there is something seriously wrong with the English game, even more so than many people think.

Easily the best English Right Back in the Country at the moment. Fabio get yourself down to Fratton and have a look, he's your man. Whilst you're there look at Englands No 1 in Jamo.

Got to be honest (and sometimes in fairness we have got caught out a bit) he is good a playing the right side midfield role when actually he is meant to be a defender. I'd wouldn't mind seeing perhaps when Pamarot is fit or even Lauren playing the right back and GJ being given the right winger job. He can take people on an also cut back inside. Maybe we have not found his niche just yet. Look at Henry he started of as a defender in his early days until put up front one day. Hey maybe GJ is the new young striker we are looking out for?

I reckon Glen is a terrific footballer and we really missed him in the games he was absent threough injury. His attacking play is currently essential to Pompey (bearing in mind Utaka's poor displays on the right) and he has really improved his defending to the point where Fabio Capello should pick him and nurture him for the England right back slot for the forseable future. Like Ruggers, I was disappointed in his return but all I can say is 'Harry does it again'!

I am concerned that HR is tipping Johnston for an England spot, did he not praise Taylor in a similair way last season.

well johnson is one of 'redknapp's boys' isnt he, if you are in that band you will always gain more praise than others - matty taylor rarely has been, and never will be one of his boys will he... i have to be completely honest, i think that matty taylor is a fantastic footballer and had he not been injured at the tail end of last season i honestly think that he would have made it into spineless steves 'b' team at least but he as much as i do want to see him stay and play deep down i can see why he wont and doesnt...

We really missed Johnno when he was injured, didn't we, I really hope he makes the breakthrough into the England team soon. He's done really well for us since we signed him properly.

GJ has settled down, grown up & is playing well. The longer this happens whilst wearing the blue of Pompey, all the better. If it gets him an England call up, fantastic.
