Pompey face Plymouth in round 4
We beat Ipswich 1-0 at the weekend and our reward for getting into round 4 is a home draw against another Championship side Plymouth.
With all due respect to Plymouth - as this will not be an easy game at all - I do not think that too many of us will be that unhappy with this draw will we?
As I have lived just outside of Plymouth since 1988 - having left Leigh Park behind as a kid - as the chances of being able to make it to Fratton Park for this game will be slim, but not impossible, had it been at Home Park I would have been laughing... as it is we now have a great chance of making it into round 5 don't we fellas.

This is a great draw for us. Although I never thought I'd say it but on current form would an away draw have been better?

The Sports Mail used to refer to this as 'the battle of the Ports' in the days before we played S C U M M E R S on a more regular basis. I wonder how long before they do so again. I've got fond memories of Plymouth. I went to Home Park in 1983 for the 3rd Division title celebs (cost £5 return on the Pompey special train!) and also saw Mark Chamberlain score a brilliant solo goal there in 1989. Not so fondly remembered is kevin Summerfield scoring a late winner for them at Fratton in our promotion winning season in 1987. Memories eh?

Maybe this is our year? There are some more all Premiership ties hot on the heals of the last round - the more Prem teams that go out, surely the more chance we've got? Semi finals with 3 of the 'big' four would be nice - couldn't lose then, eh?

We always get a few wins under our belts in cups before we come a cropper against the big 4. I hope we get a bit of luck with the draw this year and find ourselves in the Semis. An away draw at St Mary's in the next round would be my biggest dream.

I am looking forward to this, Being a green exhiled down the road in the unmentioned city, it is closer for me than my matchday trips to home games.

I'm happy with this though, like rug, we shouldn't take too much for granted.

im pretty happy with this draw, an away tie might have been nice - well certainly for me as it is only 30 minutes down the road for me! - but with the africans away we might even look to playing 4-4-2 more often than not home and away, so not sure it'll make much difference over the coming weeks... if we can get through, and get a bit of luck in the next round the draw might 'open up' for us and it could be our year?

great draw for us - couldnt have been better!!! AT LEAST 7 non-prmiership teams in the next round, mean we could very easily get one then too - and theres noting saying they cant get too the semis either? this could be our year - just so long as we dont get one of the "big 4" that is... oh, and havant potentially have liverpool away - so great for them too!

if we do get through, and do draw one of the 'big 4' we shouldn't be afraid... on our day we can beat anyone, and on a cup day particularly so... yep, what a draw that would be for havant if they could win, if luton are able to keep players between now and the cup replay they could still surprise liverpool - but you'd expect them to now win wouldnt you...

although i wont be easy, we couldnt have got a better draw. if it was away, the opponent would be really up for it, and if it was a worse team than plymouth then theres a very good chance that the media would build it up, pressure on us. but no-one in the press seems to care about this, im more confident than agaisnt wigan. and another championship team that nugent is used to playing

no pressure, not the best side, not th worst side, its at home - the only problem, is that everyone just EXPECTS us to win. they wont bother thinking about it untill we dont...

The Dockyard Derby eh. Plymouth will certainly sell out the Milton End they always bring plenty to Fratton. Never met in FA Cup before. Although we have played four times in League Cup Pompey lead 3-1 one and Plymouth beat us in the ZDS Cup in 1991.

A quick look at the odds shows that Pompey are now Cup favourites outside of the Big 4 at 12-1.

We used to have some great games with them in mid-lates 80s. I'd love the away games. Along week end in Cornwall. Local B&B, the nightlife, good food & we would never lose at Home Park & usually won. Any won go there on Boxing day in Alan Balls promotion season. Bl00dy lunchtime kick off. Left Pompey at 6am by coach. Great game we won 3-2. However thet came to FP in April & won 1-0.

ive just been called by plymouth graham - he is a pompey fan and a travelling companion of mine, my brothers and my sister-in-laws, along with his mate geoff - and we're going, so the landlord will be in town for this afterall, with whom im not sure yet!

hey storagemat that boxing day game i think i was there..was that when all the pompey fans were singing and cogering to "Reet pettite " im sure it was..i was als there when we went up from div 3 15000 pompey fans hotched down from Bolton for that one..they still talk about i down here

Plymouth .... Memories from the corners of my mind... Great draw I reckon a team we can beat but nt be complacent about. a home draw to get the crowd going and hopefully see a Pompey win.. The dockyard connection.. the div 3 promotion days (what a day) .. he only problem I have is who to do for 'They played for them too' three great Pompey?plymouth legends to chose from .. Norman Piper, Ritchie Reynolds and Nicky Jennings... Oh well a couple of weeks to think about it yet...

Chix said that we were 40-1 before the ipswich game, which i thought were terrible odd - good for us and our betting, but i thought we deserved to be more favoured tbh... i think we are something like 12-1, so still worth a punt.
