Nugent's chance to impress

Nugent's chance to impress

Dave Nugent took only 5 minutes to make an impact as a substitute for us against Ipswich yesterday, scoring the winning goal that saw us into round 4 - for the next 15 minutes or so after that he was almost unplayable...

His movement, mobility and pace - which is lightening compare to Kanu - caused plenty of problems for the Ipswich defence, and now finally it looks as though Harry Redknapp is prepared to give him his chance after telling sky sports: 'this will do his confidence some good. It is up to him now.

'It has been difficult for him to get into the team, but he will get some games now and we can see what he can do.

'Hopefully he can prove a success'.

He can only prove a success if he is given a chance, something which he has not been given before - with this now almost forced upon Redknapp lets hope that he gets the chance he deserves and can 'prove a success'...

So Harry if it is 'up to him' that surely must mean that a) He ain't going nowhere in the January Sales and b) You are going to give the lad the starts he yearns for... Otherwise what is any different and why make the comment... So on the basis that Kanu has gone to the ACN and Nugent is going to be given his chance are we gonna see a 451 with Benjani replacing Utaka on the right and Nugent the sole striker up front.. or a more conventional 442 with Nuge partnering Benny... also if it is now 'up to him' does that imply that whoever you bring in (striker wise) will not automatically demand a place in the starting line up... As usual 'H' you've told us nothing...

i just fear that 'arry is saying what 'we want to hear' but i still worry that he wont actually give him the chance? the news that ive had is that the club are torn, some want him sold as we are getting no return on the investment - because he isnt played enough - but others dont want him sold becuase they are worried about the 'damage' it will do our reputation... either way we are screwed... altho i find it quite simple really we either play the fella and find out he is crap - which i dont believe - or we let him go and get ridiculed for a while at wasting some money, but soon get over this and regret his sale... its simple really isnt it...

...e could be saying that nugent will have the chance to show himself off - at another club, where he is guranteed football...he never mention "at pompey"...but i doubt that...he has a great chance to make it in one of the best clubs in the premiership, only a fool, or a very very unlucky man would mess it up

Nugent will give his all. as he does on the pitch, you cant fault the lad, he can only show us if he is good enough when he is selected. Mind you he looked great alongside that bloody carthorse Kanu, who is getting slower and lazier, he must need a holiday in the sun.

yeah - I reckon Kanu needs a good five or six year break well way from Pompey somewhere.. I know a lot of you fellas can see what I can't but with my eyes all I see is a lazy sid who is just taking us for a ride... All that fuss over the contract... all those threats to and from Harry and what do we get for it .. anyway Back to Nugent ... this lad has bundles of energy and enthusiasm and should be left loose on Derby and Sunderland to see what he can do... We'll still have time to sell him after that if he can't cut it ... but I'm confident he will....

Re Chix's first comment Benjani is too valuable to be risked yesterday. Hew can play up front or right side and we need him fit during ACON. But what a miss by Utaka!!

pompeyrug and i have had quite a bit of chat about Nugent and we both feel the same way, my journo rat mate reckons the pompey Nugent conundrum has got them all enthralled. A few games and goals would do him no harm, but the info i have is that the club are just not sure about him, so we will have to wait and see. Hopefully another poor Kanu performance with Utaka's dreadfully lazy miss yesterday will convince them to keep Nuge and may be add Lita or our long term ( 2 yrs now??) target French U21 target Boukari

i say this as i feel we need a striker (ruling out Utaka) to match the speed of Benji. Personally really I hope when both Kanu & Utaka comes back they are on the bench and dont get an immeadiate 1st team start. I think the club has abided totally in it's part of the bargain with the Nigerians and Kanu goes to the tournament Nigerian captain and Utaka as a 1st team choice. My own personal point of view is we have been carrying them both for most of the last two months and sacrificed two league places for thatcommitment. I do want them back but they must work to get in the team.

Tubbs has left the building

Tubbs has finally left Pompey; perhaps his destination is something of a surprise then again there had been some 'rumours' recently of an Eastleigh interest.

Match highlights - Pompey 0-1 Orient

Disappointing as it was, you take the rough with the smooth and cannot gloss over things when they aren't so good so here goes with the 1-0 defeat Pompey suffered against Orient.
