'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Predicted win proved the right call

Pompey were going to beat Ipswich was the thought! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll were thoughts that I agreed with.

Most of us were expecting victory over Ipswich in the 3rd round of the FA cup and that proved the case as we marched onto round 4 after a 1-0 win thanks to Dave Nugent's goal and several David James saves.

What the poll asked - FA cup - Ipswich v Pompey

How you voted - Pompey win 70%, Ipswich win 17%, Draw 13%

Current Poll - The African boys are now set to head off to the African nations, some feel this will cost us dearly, whilst others are sure we will be ok.

We will miss the African fellas when they are gone - some more than others - but it is my belief that we will be fine without them, and from the looks of the poll so far so do the vast majority. But where will we be in the league when they return - this is what pentonpompey wants to know with this - 'by the time our boys are back from the ANC, where do we think Pompey will be in the league?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

I think Diops a big miss, no so much for abilitly but for presents..yep, can see us missing the boys, lets hope they all get knocked out early!!! :)

Just wanted to say that all the papers are yapping about how "Nugent put pompey through"...i just wanted to praise DJ, he deserves equal if not more praise than anyone else on the team, watch the saves on MOTD last night...awsome!!!!
CharlieChimes
jamo made 3 fantastic saves, but personally i feel that had nuge not come on when he did we wouldnt have gone through... that isnt to say that we would have lost, but i dont think we would have broken ipswich down - nuge made a massive difference when he came on...
pompeyrug
he was the only man on the bench who could come on and make a difference - and fortunatly, he did! we were lucky to get the win - but it would have been unfair if we had lost too

So 70& od us were right then... that makes a change...I've not watched MOTD yet but the radio commentary about Jamos saves said two of them were top drawer ... world class even... We're you watching Fabio... You start your new job tomorrow and you need look no further than Jamo for the first name on your team sheet..

he was at the villa - united game wasnt he, whilst carson wouldnt have done too much to put him off - altho he did push one ronaldo effort right into giggs' path - i dont think he would have done enough to have impressed him enough to warrant a start ahead of jamo... joe hart at city could be the one that sneaks through tho fellas?
pompeyrug
needed a world class save from James though to keep it a 1-0!
merlin
at least ipswich are better than qpr merlin ;)
jbaker
i would rather rely on a good save to beat ipswich than a lucky goal to beat qpr...still, could have been beter, and i would have been embarased at anyother result

diop is our driving force but sean davis will have to be that looking forward to the draw hopefully get a red and white team at home, then again would have rather had them yesterday with all our african players but we'd still have quality to beat them
pompeyboy
we both won, thats all that will be remebered and when we beat chelski in round 4 too thats all they'll remember aswell ;-)
pompeyrug
sorry, i dont think diop has been our driving force this season...we have built off a solid defence, and have brought in and developed a couple of creative players (muntari and kranjcar and davis). we have then overloaded the midfield, cut out everyone else, and prevented them from playing (with muntari, davis and diop), allowing us to play for break away football. loosing diop is ok, because hughes will do just as good a job there - loosing muntari is a bigger problem.
