Rangers leading Matty Taylor chase?

Rangers leading Matty Taylor chase?

As far the 'reports' are going Matty Taylor is having no shortage of clubs chasing him, which is not a surprise as he is a quality footballer. Now The News is reporting that Scottish giants Rangers are now leading the chasing pack?

I think that the vast majority, if not all of us have accepted - and probably long ago - that Taylor's time with Pompey is up - it is just a case of where he will go and for how much?

Personally, if he is to go I think the sooner he went the better as I am feed up with all the talk surrounding him and we just need to get this finished with once and for all, one way or another. I would hate to see another Gary O'Neil style deadline day move.

Boro, Fulham, Reading, Everton and West Ham are just a few clubs that have been 'linked', even today Bolton were being 'reported' as offering £3m for him, which was said to have been the most offered, but this still falls below last weeks 'reported' £5m asking price, which was said to have put off Fulham.

To be honest - and no big secret here - like most of you I do not want the fella to leave but if he is not part of the 'future vision' then it is a sacrifice that we will have to accept - I just pray that we do not let him go on the cheap as a player of his quality will not be easy to replace, and the cheaper we let him go the harder this will become...

Totally agree Rug. Don't want him to go, but if he does, I;d rather it was over and done with for as much cash as possible. At least if he went to Rangers he wouldn't be going to a rival team where he'd undoubtedly rip us to pieces next time we played against him.

Agree with all of that, though watch this space. (Another) rumour has it that Sunderland are in for him at £3.5m

Taylor will not go to Rangers. He is a happy family man living in Oxford. Look at clubs in travelling distance. Why let Taylor go, whats the problem.? He can fill numerous left sided positions, is fit, is a super club man, gives 100% and is loved by nearly everybody. On top of this, when playing regulary was promoted for an England spot. This is why so many clubs are interested in him. What am I missing.?

if he goes anywhere itll be reading, because of living circumstances. but hes too good for us to let go, especially as we are losing players in african nations. why are we letting him go? why? he would be in my first team plans any day of the week

Well if he goes to Sunderland at least make it after we play them next weekend.

jbaker has made some good points, and since we are trying to be successful you would think these questions need answering. Do we have anything better than Matty? can we get a replacement of the equal quality for £5m? Can we reduce the squad further when trying to be contenders for Europe? Can we reduce when all the competition is looking at squad enlargement? if the answer to these is yes then let him go, if not then you have to wonder about the clubs true ambition and the future for players like Sol who have made their position about squad quality reduction absolutely clear.

Taylor himself has said on his Setanta blog that Pompey have accepted 2 bids for him, looks like he is off!

Reading £3.5 million - Done deal as I posted in the forum about 4 weeks ago - Whether the deal involves Lita coming the other way I don't know .. but hopefully it will..

yep paul sky have the same, and with bearing in mind we never really replaced O'Neil we are seriously short of midfield cover for the coming 6 weeks, therefore i am hoping HR must have somebody else already in mind.
04/01/2008 19:15:00
Not what i heard Chix my somebody else in mind was probably the mid fielder from Real Mallorca, the Guiza geezer, but it seems that the £3.5 m offer to be paid for from the fee received for selling Matty is not enough... so... that went well then

MotM in poor Notts County show...Cambridge next

There wasn't too much to cheer from the Notts County defeat was there, well certainly not the 2nd half at Fratton Park but one plus was seen as Amine Linganzi for Pompey.

Double figure aim for Baker

Goals are in the game of Baker; we've seen this already as the midfielder has scored four for Pompey since his arrival from MK Dons in the summer. His aim is at least 10-goals.
