Rangers leading Matty Taylor chase?

As far the 'reports' are going Matty Taylor is having no shortage of clubs chasing him, which is not a surprise as he is a quality footballer. Now The News is reporting that Scottish giants Rangers are now leading the chasing pack?

I think that the vast majority, if not all of us have accepted - and probably long ago - that Taylor's time with Pompey is up - it is just a case of where he will go and for how much?

Personally, if he is to go I think the sooner he went the better as I am feed up with all the talk surrounding him and we just need to get this finished with once and for all, one way or another. I would hate to see another Gary O'Neil style deadline day move.

Boro, Fulham, Reading, Everton and West Ham are just a few clubs that have been 'linked', even today Bolton were being 'reported' as offering £3m for him, which was said to have been the most offered, but this still falls below last weeks 'reported' £5m asking price, which was said to have put off Fulham.

To be honest - and no big secret here - like most of you I do not want the fella to leave but if he is not part of the 'future vision' then it is a sacrifice that we will have to accept - I just pray that we do not let him go on the cheap as a player of his quality will not be easy to replace, and the cheaper we let him go the harder this will become...

Totally agree Rug. Don't want him to go, but if he does, I;d rather it was over and done with for as much cash as possible. At least if he went to Rangers he wouldn't be going to a rival team where he'd undoubtedly rip us to pieces next time we played against him.

Agree with all of that, though watch this space. (Another) rumour has it that Sunderland are in for him at 3.5m

Taylor will not go to Rangers. He is a happy family man living in Oxford. Look at clubs in travelling distance. Why let Taylor go, whats the problem.? He can fill numerous left sided positions, is fit, is a super club man, gives 100% and is loved by nearly everybody. On top of this, when playing regulary was promoted for an England spot. This is why so many clubs are interested in him. What am I missing.?

if he goes anywhere itll be reading, because of living circumstances. but hes too good for us to let go, especially as we are losing players in african nations. why are we letting him go? why? he would be in my first team plans any day of the week

jbaker has made some good points, and since we are trying to be successful you would think these questions need answering. Do we have anything better than Matty? can we get a replacement of the equal quality for 5m? Can we reduce the squad further when trying to be contenders for Europe? Can we reduce when all the competition is looking at squad enlargement? if the answer to these is yes then let him go, if not then you have to wonder about the clubs true ambition and the future for players like Sol who have made their position about squad quality reduction absolutely clear.

Taylor himself has said on his Setanta blog that Pompey have accepted 2 bids for him, looks like he is off!

Reading 3.5 million - Done deal as I posted in the forum about 4 weeks ago - Whether the deal involves Lita coming the other way I don't know .. but hopefully it will..

yep paul sky have the same, and with bearing in mind we never really replaced O'Neil we are seriously short of midfield cover for the coming 6 weeks, therefore i am hoping HR must have somebody else already in mind.

Not what i heard Chix my somebody else in mind was probably the mid fielder from Real Mallorca, the Guiza geezer, but it seems that the 3.5 m offer to be paid for from the fee received for selling Matty is not enough... so... that went well then

Harry wake up and bloody sign Lita. The boy has pedigree, Nugent has chum.

hmm, 007 makes a valid point, last year playing regularly Matty tipped for england, by 'arry aswell. Then he doesnt play, getting used to feeling bewildered by it all, same feeling as whem GON went in the summer, but to be fair to matt, i wouldnt want to stay if i wasnt playing if i were as good as him. Good luck Matt, loved by us all, we are all mystified, what have you siad behind closed doors?? that can be the only answer surely.

yea i like Lita to, i see that rumors continue that Harry had the scouts got to see the Regiana's excellent striker Vigiani play. I'm not sure about this one as HR has been vociferous in his lack of respect for Italian players saying we all recall his " they cant do english football only Zola was successful wasnt he". I'always wondered how Di Canio felt about that but if the Vigiani story turned out to be true although somewhat of a climb down for Redknapp for the team it wouldn't be bad news

another thing which has intrigued me is that I heard Roy keane going on about bringing in two players on monday, and I can see that being matty and hughsie, in a double deal, like the one we had with tottenham, that would mean around 5 mil from them to, plus I would say a couple more million from other players, so I think we are looking at atleast 7 million being spent on players in the january transfer window, which isnt enough for a top striker, but for a left winger from zaragoza....

I've heard a strong rumor Matty to Fulham, he has a relation on the board.

Possibilty, but fulham or sunderland or reading? I think sunderland have the most potential, with the crowd and stadium, but reading have the most stable posistion, so i think he will opt for one of those two. Fulham however seem to have a lot of cash so you never know.

just so long as we get 15 million for him i dont care if he leaves. unfortunatly, 2 clubs have aparantly had there bids accepted by pompey...not good news!

i still dont think 3.5m is enough for the fella - im telling you when he plays regularly for his 'new club' they will be able to sell him for double the amount in less than 12 months... i think we've ballsed up even letting him go, but letting him go for less than 5m is even more of a slip - we wont get a player of equal quality for that amount, let alone a better one!

cant see why e are doing it!!! less than 6 million is a slip! his value over the summr was betwen 6-8 million, why so low now???
