Storrie - extra quality will arrive

Storrie - extra quality will arrive

Peter Storrie has promised that whatever money is raised from sales of players will be reinvested into new players in order to aid our quest for European football - and these players will be quality footballers...

When speaking to The News he would not be drawn on how much money will be available, but did say that all the money from 'one or two leaving' would be used to buy further quality.

Matty Taylor, Lauren and Djimi Traore are being reported as 'the biggest casualties' but in all honesty are we really likely to get that much money even if we sold all 3? My thinking is that with the money we would get - or at least will accept - we would not be able to buy in players that were any better...

The News also reported that Storrie has said that Leroy Lita and Marvin Elliott are not players Pompey are looking to sign - that does not mean it will not happen though does it.

All we can do this month is sit back, be patient and see what happens I guess - as well as soak up the numerous 'rumours'.

A smokescreen I believe but at least Peter Storrie is alive and well which is good news in itself.

good point dave - he seemed to have dropped off the face of the planet hadnt he... on scouting missions no doubt! do we, or do we not have money to spend? i think that if we really wanted it we could - but dont think it will be given after our outlay last summer, and extra £10m would be well worth investing tho and this return could be trebled i reckon...

obviously i know its not that easy, you cant just say 'here you go, here's £10m'...

They all said Nugent was not coming here and look what happened. Don't believe anything.

Rug, can't see Pompey spending much to be honest. I think we are now on a par playing wise with Villa and Blackburn but would expect both of these clubs to go out and strengthen with quality to aid their Euro ambitions. Add to these West Ham and maybe Spurs and I think that we are probably looking at a mid table position without 2 or 3 additions costing around your £10M.

agree bluedr, like i keep saying i think we will be limited to loans, freebies and using whatever we cna raise by selling players - thb i cannot see that the money we raise will be sufficient to buy in the extra quality we need for this european push as the chances of being able to strengthen with the money we raise is unlikely? pompey play their cards close to their chest now - so we'll just have to see what happen i suppose...

what worried me a little was that HR was recently saying that they were looking for loans or for people on free.... which is great to get us to were we are but not sure that this will help us get to the next stage! Saying this HR knows far more than me on the subject so got to trust him really!

I think once we have tasted euro/uefa matches, we'll want it all the time. The mind set is that we don't miss what we never had. At this rate we won't get any.

I am not sure Jacka Storrie does much in the way of scouting !!!! or truth telling, or that he would be much missed, although the PL do hold him in some regard. I think Dave is right this is a smoke screen as it doesn't add up, Thinking cash, well lets be optimistic and say £4.5m for Taylor, Lauren is an injury case so maybe £1m, as for Traore well who ever takes him on will need to pay his huge personal debts so he will be a free. So roughly, a walloping great big £5.5m in the bank to buy a good MT replacement, a mid fielder cover and that urgent high quality striker...hmmmm

On this day in history...26th June

A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, 26th June.

Done Deal - Smith in permanently from Swindon

The interest Pompey retained in Smith, with him 'in our sights' has resulted in him returning to the Blues on a permanent basis after signing for an 'undisclosed fee' from Swindon.

Cushioning the blow

Much, that needed saying, about Webster's exit for Ipswich and the arrival of Clarke in return (and cash) has been said hasn't it? Doyle's been spot on with what he said.

Swindon striker in 'Pompey's sights'

Michel Smith, who was of course on loan last season, could return? He's still in 'Pompey's sights' by all accounts after Swindon informed him he's 'surplus to requirements' now.
