'If It's Football, It's Vital'

3 is the magic number...

Pompey need to sign players this month, this much we know, but it will be 3 that come in! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from eastneydave's poll are thoughts that I would not disagree with.

We look likely to be limited to loan or freebie signings this month, with the money signings likely to only happen if we sell players - which really we cannot afford to do can we?

If we can get in 3 players, with little or no players going the other way that will not be bad business but I would say that these players arriving need to be a striker, a right sided midfielder and a creative midfielder. If we can cover these 3 areas then I think we would have done ok.

This is Harry Redknapp's favourite time so although 3 would not be a bad amount I would not bet against him doing more business than this, it is quite conceivable that 3 will arrive on deadline day alone...

What the poll asked - How many players will Pompey bring in during the transfer window?

How you voted - Three 44%, Two 18%, Four 18%, One 9%, Five or more 7%, None 4%

Current Poll - Arguably he best day in the football calendar is almost upon us - the FA cup 3rd round.

The 3rd round of the FA cup is always a special day, and always a day I really look forward to. This season we travel to Ipswich but will that be as far as we go, or can we carry on our fine away form and claim another win? Maybe it will end in a draw and a replay will be needed? How do you see this game ending - this is what pompeyrug wants to know with this - 'FA cup - Ipswich v Pompey?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

Three new faces would certainly bolster the squad... I wonder if they will turn out to be a creative midfielder, a right winger and a striker... now wouldn't that be ******y.. Even more ******y if it turned out to be ADA, SWP and Defoe ... but now I'm dreaming .... probably three African youth players who ply their trade in France and that we have never heard of ...
Chix
stop dreaming chix...why would we stoop so low as to take SWP? its ronaldo whos coming our way...and defoe? whats that about, when we are nailed on to get henry...and ADA...oh, actually, that would be quite nice... the problem is, that 3 types of playr we are looking for, are the 3 types of player most in demand, so it would be a difficult job looking for them if we had 30 million to spend - let alone just going for lones/freebies!

my biggest concern is getting the quality in that we need to push on... it is looking like we wont have any cash, unless we raise it, but i cant see us being able to get anything better than what we already have by using the money we raise? if we let matty taylor go for £3m for example how much 'extra quality' could we get for £3m...
pompeyrug
Exactly, Rug. Which begs the question of why we'd want to sell him!!?
NorthStandDan
there is no doubt that at £3m, matt taylor is the best deal out there for any club. why sell him? and if chix is right, we're all goin on a europan tour

Just played an 80s mix cd & it has the song on it '3 is the magic number'. Awful song.
storagematt
yea i much prefer 3 points, although for some reason i cant get that to play at home :-/
russellm
I would sell him, bt for 5 mil atleast, he is quality, and would be a key player to anyone who goes, I voted for 3 players, but edging towards just the one or two, based on storries comments, i can see a striker coming in, but doubt it will be defoe, darren bent perhaps? I think though harry might try and do a yak, and look abroad, hes done ok though harry hasnt he with strikers, yakubu, toddy, and benji, nuge i think was a drastic move, after pressure from other clubs, and failing to get teh yak or anelka.
