What would be the point?
You always get some 'strange' links during the transfer windows but quite what the reasoning of this one - Bernard Mendy to Pompey - offered up by setanta sports on behalf of L'Equipe is I am not sure? More to the point what the point actually would be is beyond me...
I remember the defender when he was at Bolton, and if I recall correctly he did not exactly 'impress' then, now he cannot get back into the Paris St Germain side. He is out of contract in the summer and is being linked with a move to Celtic, but the French club might want to cash in on him now - but it wont see him come here.
For one thing we do not need a defender, and for another we certainly do not need a right back! We have Glen Johnson as first choice, he is backed up by Lauren, Noe Pamarot and at a push Djimi Traore and Martin Cranie, we even have Linvoy Primus - when fit - so there is no need whatsoever for a right back is there.
He can play in central defence I believe, but let the fella go to Fulham, who are also linked with him. We need a striker, a right sided midfielder/winger and probably a creative influence in the midfield, not another right back, or even a defender full stop.
Harry Redknapp has just yesterday complimented the strength of our defence so why this 'link' has appeared I am not quite sure, I think we might have been 'tentatively linked' in the summer, so maybe - and probably the only reason - this is why we are being credited with an interest again...

dont need him...move on - the concern is that this is the best rumour the pres can come up with...surely we can do better, or ami getting ahead of myself?

L'Equipe is a very good sports paper but it does narf come up with some crap to fill in the column inches,

they are just 'testing the water' i reckon... loans and freebies - or finds raised - will be the way we unfortunately look like we will have to go this month - but loans with views to permanent deals might not be bad...

in fairness tho only johnson, lauren and cranie - arguably paramount - are out and out right backs arent they... the other were only mentioned as players that could be used, and can fill in in other areas, some could also leave this month? either way mendy isnt needed...

...and lauren is there for experiance, johnson is there cos hes great, and cranie is actually developing as a centre back, where he played for qpr, and transformed there side!

the Lita loan deal may be a possibility, he is not a regular for the biscuit men anymore and fell out with Coppell because if his off the field bahaviour. If we could just get him to nick a toilet seat we could have a real success on our hands !!!!

Sam was a shrewd judge of a player, pity he seems to have lost it now, maybe he will bring Mendy into the squad, or let him go to Celtic who are linked to him.

Have to admit, i get excited even though i know deep down most of the stuff is complete bolloucks. shame to say, we wont know anything which is going on right know, im sure in the past 24 hours, harry has made several phone calls to players agents that we dont know about.
