Come on 'Arry make that call mate!

In the main Harry Redknapp has been true to his word, 'players will be given a chance when others stop performing'... although this isn't entirely true in all instances - for whatever reason - on the whole he has, as said been true to his word.

Now, even more so than ever before is the time for Dave Nugent to get his chance.

By Redknapp's own admission Kanu is looking tired - but doesn't he always! - and although he is continuing to play well Benjani's early goalscoring form has dried up, 1 in his last 8 proves this.

So against Reading tomorrow, with his recent substitute performances Nugent has earned his chance and must start - something Redknapp seems to be hinting at. He is fresh and wants to perform, he is straining at the leash so why not let him off it tomorrow and see where he runs to eh? He cannot do any worse than we have been doing of late can he...

To be honest I cannot see Redknapp playing anything other than a 4-5-1 tomorrow, so even with the thought that I have that I feel this wastes Benjani he needs to be in the side, so I would play him on the right if need be - as I say it wastes him to large degree but he can play the role - and try Nugent as the lone striker, he is mobile has much more pace than Kanu, is most certainly fresh and has a point to prove.

It will be a new year, lets freshen things up 'Arry and give Nugent the chance that he has been patiently waiting for, and the chance that he deserves, no matter what his future might hold - which again I pray remains with Pompey...

I'll welcome the decision if it comes, he can't do any worse!

Got to give the lad a go, it must be a right smack in the teath for him when there is talk of getting a goal scorer in. We already have him, I know he hasn't got one in the Premiership yet, but at Preston he proved he can score and given a bit of a run in the team he will deliver.

I may doubt Nugents ability but I don't doubt his heart and I actually think he should be given a chance as all our other strikers look well out of juice.

....oh and give MVUEMBA a chance. The boy is quality.

I think we will see big changes tomorrow. I would not be surprised to see Arnold get a game along with Taylor, Nugent and Pedro.

he's waited for the chance, others have 'delivered' now it is time for his chance to be given, he's more than earned it - maybe he wont, but he could win us the game tomorrow if he is given this start... if in knew 100% that he was started tomorrow i would put money on him scoring at least once, what the hell i'll put money on him scoring twice!

Change it around and unleash the beast called 'Arnie' in midfield along with Sulley and Papa Diop. Lets hope that we can reproduce the Newcastle form at Reading

Would be good to see Arnie and Nugent play... Looking at the performances of late they must both be chomping at the bit .. and given that the transfer window is open this is a great time for them both to prove to Harry that he needn't look anywhere other than under his own nose... but saying that he won''t play them in case either pick up and injury then they will be out while the Africans are away...

again agree with your thoughts on maybe not risking players getting injured but sometimes needs must, if we dont pick up something today - right or wrong the pressure will be on 'arry wont it, even after our start to the season... i expect nuge to start, but it wont be a 'shop window' thing as the papers are making out...

We are carrying Kanu. He can't run & can be marked out of a game. Yes he is very talented but the end results don't add up. We were doing very well without him & I'm sure will do so. Give Nugent a run upfront with Benji for the next 5-6 games. All players need a run to get used to the pace & Nugent is no different.

nugent in particualar has done everything right! off the pitch, he has declared how he wants to prove it to usthat he can make it, that he is good enough, and wants to fight for a place in the team, on the pitch, he has put effort in, worked the oposition defence, and contributed to games. all he hasnt got has been a start (well, since august) - and a goal. I am convinced the two will come at the same time, against Reading - I hope so!

mvuemba equally hasnt complained, he is classy, and Harry clearly likes him enough to sign him permanantly in the summer - but not enough to play him...surely he will get his chance today, whilst we still have a back up plan

taylor has said he would "review the situation" in january - he didnt say he would leve, and whilst i am pretty sure he will go (but hope not), Harry will want him to put in a good performance, to boost his price tag, and he will want to put in good performance, to ensure he goes to a decent club. definatyl worth playing him today!

OK, lets look at this from a business sense, we have a 6m unused asset that it appears nobody has any faith in (including Harry). We have all of our best players out at the African nations - but before that, we haven't really scored at home all season anyway so we need a proven striker. It's rumoured that a few top class proven strikers will be available in January. We have no money to invest alledgedly and this 6m unused asset kicking around - what would you do? The only problem is this - he isnt worth 6m so there will be a negative return on our investment as nobody will invest. My forecast is that we wont do anything, we'll be forced to play him during the African nations Cup, we'll lsoe valuable points and not qualify for Europe (again) sad but true - I wish it weren't.

Walshy i have a bad feeling that you are right, i think that Harry has had all the money he is going to get, and unless he can get the odd loan deal then we will be seeing nobody coming in during this period.

okay mate i will agree about the lack of funds issue, i am convinced that we will have little or no money to spend so will have to generate what we can or be limited to loan, cheap or free deals this month - but still feel that saying 'no one' has faith in nuge is wrong, i think more than a fair share of people do have faith in him, we dont know 'arry's reasoning - maybe he doesnt have faith in him, but maybe he does, but not playing him would seem to suggest he doesnt... i just dont know, we'll just have to see what happens, but if he does play this month he will not cost us point - i feel, not just hope, he will win us points...

It is master plan by Harry, keep Nuggett on the bench for months and then unleash him when the New Year comes around. Watch the boy go he will be so bloody angry, and determined to prove himself.
