Pompey to move for Swedish veteran?

'Silly season' rubbish, or is this something with some basis to it?

According to something that I stumbled across on the net this morning we are plotting a move for Swedish legend, but unfortunately veteran striker Henrik Larsson.

A move for a veteran would not surprise too many, and several have said that this is something they would expect Harry Redknapp to do, but I do not think that too many would have expected it to have been for a veteran with quite the reputation that Larsson does.

He is out of contract with Helsingborg so he would not cost anything, so a move on a free would be possible and could maybe tempt him back for one last hurrah in the premier league after his brief spell with United last season.

From what I know Larsson keeps himself in peak condition, so if he would be willing to sign a short term contract with us then as much as the age thing is a concern needs must, we need a goalscorer so for nothing other than his wages why not - his reputation speaks for itself.

The fact that he was even linked with a return to United does seem to show that he is still believed to be able to cut it, but leaving his family behind again could be something that I feel he might not be prepared to do again...

nice idea, but would he really want to come to lowly pompey, particually when he could probably join almost any club in the premiership (chelski will be looking for a goalscorer in the short term whilst drogba is away)?

Larsson till the end of the season, why not. But i would just love a natural goalscorer that would be ours for longer than four months. Blackburn, everton,Villa,Newcastle,Spurs etc all seem to have them so why not one for ourselves. I know it's going to cost us, but if we want to compete with these teams lets go out and get one. What with Larsson as well we can hopefully start getting the goals to push us to europe while looking to the future to.
blueape
Nice idea. He is the natural goal scorer we need - but lets wait and see eh!
eastneydave
we need a striker, but it appears that our dealing will be limited to minimal fees, frees or loans... it would only be a short term option but if we could get him - and i do think he would sign if we do want him and he will be willing to leave his family for 6 months - then if he could push us onto europe then the riches that would bring would be music to 'arry's and sasha's ears... but as dave says lets see...

I'd be well excited if Larsson was wearing a Pompey shirt - The Guy is a legend and who knows we have had some 'short term' past stars before, Merse, Berger, Sherringham .. this isn't out of Harrys scope .... I Love Janaury... nearly as much as June, July and especially August...

lita, larson, dalessandro, so many names in the hat...what are the chances that one of them turns up?
pompeycarpet
Whoever comes in, you can guarantee Harry will be one of the first to get dealing tomorrow

Well I've been touting Lita for a while now... there's no doubting Larsson's quality but he hasn't got the pace like Kanu so I guess we'd rotate the two.
stillthewhizz
haha, stillthewhiz, im pretty sure larson is quicker then kanu, who has just spent the night in morrisons, after taking 6 hours, to get in and out of the toliet, and was locked in. It didnt bother him though, as when they opened the doors, he was still clambering to the doors with his trolley, and didnt know what the fuss was about!
PompeyGleamer
Larsson it appears is wanted by half the Premier League including Arsenal.
eastneydave
i think my nephew reece is faster than kanu and he hasnt even started walking yet...
pompeyrug
i think anyone with a torso is! i hope larsson doesnt come, dont really like him much.
PompeyGleamer
No Larsson would not be the answer, we need a younger hungrier striker than him, if it works out give Kanu a break for the rest of the month and use him in February when he is refreshed, and if anyone mentions bloody Benjys work rate again i will go mad, he needs to get goals as well, we could get a bloke to run around all afternoon from anywhere, now we need a finisher and a proper target man!!
Owenspompey
Longer term Owens I'd agree with you but in the short term we need somebody to bag a few goals so why not Man Utd did it .. Why shouldn't we ? That said I agree with you that we need a hungry striker but of premiership status .....otherwise we'll have another Nugent on our hands .. afterall I don't think you can get much hungier than him at the mo
Chix
as a short term fix larsson would be ideal - he knows where the net is and would score goals if we created them for him, the hunger that nuge has will not go away so working with him too would also benefit him as well as us... win win situation if we could get him on a 6 month contract i reckon...
pompeyrug
Yes, a great short term fix but that would mean playing 442.
storagematt
Rug, you state Larsson would be ideal if we created chances for him. You have hit the nail on the head, we must create chances. This is our main problem.
