Sulley Muntari makes, or allegedly makes some 'quotes' in The Independent then all of a sudden he 'wants to leave' Pompey, as this has been all the talk for the past couple of days.
This is what he is said to have come out with: 'I want to end up at one of the biggest clubs.
'I will try my best here, but eventually I would like to play for a bigger club'.
I think the key word to pick up on is 'eventually'...
Muntari is a quality footballer, so it is understandable that his ambition would lead him to 'one day' want to play at the very top level in this country, but that one day is not today, tomorrow, next month or probably even in the next year or so.
It is funny how he basically said 'he would die for Pompey' just last week, yet the papers seem to have 'conveniently' missed those quotes... if memory serves me right even in those quotes he was talking about his ambition of one day wanting to play at the next level anyway.
As said Muntari is a quality footballer, and has been very good for us, better than some people might lead you to believe, but still no where near as good as the recent hype is suggesting - it seems like his two stunners against Villa seemed to have elevated him to a level that he quite simply in all honesty has not reached.
Clearly I want the fella to stay, and have no doubts that he will but at some point down the line - way, way down the line - he could move on, it is down to us to keep improving, if we do this players will stay, if we do not they will go it is that simple.
Even with all this said though if Liverpool did seriously come in with a £14m offer in January - which will not happen - can anyone honestly say they would not want that hand snapped off...
