Liverpool keeping an eye on Muntari?

Liverpool keeping an eye on Muntari?

Over the weekend there were a few 'whispers' that Liverpool were tracking Sulley Muntari, today these have spread into the Daily Mail online with their reports that they are tracking him if they cannot sign Javier Mascherano.

The whole Mascherano situation itself confuses me... at first I thought they had loaned him from West Ham, then I was lead to believe that they had signed him for a 'knock down' £2m or so, but now it appears that if they want him they will have to pay £17m!

So the indication is that Muntari is being lined up as an 'alternative', but if Liverpool's Americans will not 'sanction' his signing then I do not know how they will Muntari's, as they would be looking at something in low double figures at least for him anyway...

It is a funny time of year though isn't it and these kinds of things crop up around the transfer window time.

One thought is that although Harry Redknapp would be unwilling to sell if Peter Crouch could be used in a cash plus player deal - with the cash coming to Pompey, not the other way! - he might do business, again this is surely unlikely.

Either way The News is reporting that Redknapp has denied such talk, branding it 'absolute rubbish'.

It's a shame if something does come of this, hopefully we are a buying club now and not a selling one.

We will always be a selling club, as long as we have the smallest stadium in the league (its just how it works, other teams will have more money and we will need it), however I dont think that muntari is getting sold, its just because he scored 2 goals 2 weeks ago he got some attention and now the media is speculating

I don't think one game where he 'banged' two screamers in is enough to warrant a move to Liverpool just yet. He's a raw talent and needs nourishing for a few more seasons yet.

We are a selling club im afraid. Not a big enough stadia, No european footie, not enough glamour, we can't match the really big wages. When someone like Steve Sidwell can earn more a week than almost anyone in our squad and sit on a bench week in week out, it shows the gulf between us and the big boys.

those that are 'happy' to sit on their arse and get paid a fortune will keep going that way, our players that are good enough for the top clubs will go if we cannot offer them something of the highest level... firstly we need european football - but we also need to get our training facilities sorted and the new stadium, we are going the right way but we still have a ways to go... tbh i dont see us as a 'selling club' anymore tho, in as much as i only think - at least hope - players will only be sold from now on if this is their wish, not ours... agree with stillthewhizz tho, muntari is a fine talent but as well as he has played quite alot this season he still would not have offered enough to warrant a move to a club like liverpool tbh.

This is bound to happen when we have top class players, there are always going to be bigger clubs that can and will lure them away. It even happens to the 'big 4' in this country, with the likes of Real Madrid etc luring their players away. I hope we can keep as many of them for as long as possible. But I agree, Muntari is still a raw talent and I would be suprised if he's done enough yet to get a move to a club like Liverpool.

Yep agree Tracy I think Muntari could probably move to one of the big four (or eight if you include Europe) but not yet .. they'd be gambling if they took him now .. far better that Pompey get a couple of years out of him first... but hey if he does go .. it's profit that can go back into the club.. No one player is bigger than Pompey (or any club come to that)

being a selling club doesnt mean that we have to sell to keep afloat, but if someone came to arry about a player and offer twice (or more) what he paid for him I think he may be tempted to sell. I do agree with Chix, it is too early for big clubs to be coming after him though, he still has a lot to learn

Vital View - League 2, 18th February 2017

Doncaster's winless run went on but they remain three points ahead of Plymouth. Carlisle are a further two points back. Leyton Orient and Newport hold the unwanted relegation places.

Video - Barnet 1-1 Pompey

A late Barnet goal looked as though it would end Pompey's unbeaten run but Conor Chaplin proved the saviour when he scored a last minute equaliser to earn a point in a 1-1 draw.
