'If It's Football, It's Vital'

You tell it as it is was Jamo!

Once again David James has refused to call time on his England career, so as long as Fabio Capello wants him in the squad and will give him a fair crack of the whip as he told The News he hopes to carry on: 'if the new manager fancies it, it would be nice to be in the frame'.

For a good 18 months no matter what anyone might try to tell you there was no better keeper in England, so why James was not even in the squad for the vast majority of that time, let alone not the no.1 only Spineless Steve can tell you - now James can tell us of his frustration at those times under the spineless one: 'I was slightly frustrated with being asked to come back in and then being put on the cusp of the squad.

'Scott Carson is a very talented keeper and will be number one for a long time.

'But you look at the way things panned out and ask "why?" I think Scott could have been blooded 12 months ago instead of thrown in against Croatia.

'It was very frustrating being in the England squad under Mr McClaren because I played half a game.

'At the end of the day we went out of the tournament so something wasn't right.

'I was thinking I must have done something wrong somewhere but I was playing well for Portsmouth and training well'.

I think James has basically said everything that all of us have, and had been saying all along…

What Capello will do only he knows, but if James retains his top form then I would like to think that he will not only retain him in the squad, but give him the chance again that he deserves.

James is 37, what of it - but a 'young' 37 though - 37 or 17 if you are the best in your field then you have to be the one that plays, if he remains just that - as he is - then he should be the England no.1 again and let the others put pressure on him, not him having to 'put pressure' on them.

Many will say that carrying on playing for England will 'hinder' his Pompey career; I personally do not buy into that.

It's Capello, Pompeyrug :)

fabio coppello or fabio capello either way hopefully he will base his selection on merit...

It'll be Crap-ello on the back page headlines when he loses his first match

I can understand Jamo's frustration, I felt it as well. There's no way of knowing which way Capello will go - I'd like to think he will see his merit and make Jamo no. 1 until the next world cup, when perhaps one of the good younger keepers like Carson, Green might be ready to step up. But perhaps he'll go with the younger ones from the start, we'll just have to wait and see, I hope not. In any case, he should be free of bias and give Pompey players a fair chance - which I don't believe Spineless Steve ever did.

And Martipello when we lose to the Jocks?

One thing to say about the new man coming in....he's got plenty of time to review our national pool of players before he has to bring his first squad together, and he's almost certainly not going to allow himself to be influenced by the squads and tactics used by Sven and Spineless. I've every faith that he hasn't already got his 'favourites' picked out and will choose players entirely on current form and merit.

As stupid as McClown and as much as we disliked him before, he proved everyone right he put in an inexperienced goalie in the most important game of the qualifiers, IDIOT!

Tantona, thats another good headline mate - i too hope that he does share the views that you have faith in...

Jamo should get a shout we all know that and he can do a job for England to the next World Cup at least... As for headlines it could be Fabulous Capelo if we win...
Chix
and there is a positive headline too :-) it appeared that many expected the failure to continue with england, lets be positive...

robinson is always funny when he comes to the fratton end, and today was no exception. when we cheered "englands number two" at him, he put up three fingers and lauged. good man. if jamo isnt england snumber one then this is £30 mil misplaced by the fa. fantastic tip onto the bar from berbatov, even tho it was offside
