'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Young Trinidadian interesting Pompey

On the day that Sol Campbell again revealed that he is 'considering his England future' a player at completely the other end of the scale is hoping that what promises to be a very bright future might kick start at Pompey?

Jerrel Britto is a 15 year old Trinidadian who has spent the last couple of weeks training with Pompey and as he told TTFF media he enjoyed the 'amazing experience': 'It was an amazing experience for me as a 15-year old getting that opportunity to train with a club like Portsmouth.

'Amazing is the best word I can think of because it was the first time I attended a professional club like that and at first I trained with the Under 16s but then the coaches decided to put me with the Under 18s.

'At the moment their U18s are described as the best passing team in the youth league in England so it suited my game well.

'I had the chance to gain the knowledge as well as interact with the other players there'.

Britto is set to return to Pompey again in the New Year and if he does well again he could be offered a contract with the club: 'overall I had to be patient and do my best. They have asked me to come back for another trial in January, this time without my parents, and if things go well they could keep me with one of their youth teams'.

I know many people might think 'yes, but we need players now' but you need to remember the future not just the present, so once again I am delighted to see us doing this.

If it does come off for him hopefully we can see the next Dwight Yorke - football ability wise I mean, not the off the field shenanigans...

That cheered me up no end today, the quote that our U18's are the best passing team in the country...Oh please let this be true, we have years more flowing football to look forward to. Don't tell me that pieces are starting to fall into our jigsaw?

Nice to hear we are catching up at last. Long may it continue.

Penton isn't is great to hear such things... The future's bright the future's Pompey and the kids are starting to realise that ... What made me smile about this news more than anything though was that just before I heard it I was reading that Sunderland are employing John Barnes to scout for young talent in the caribean ,, I think that he'd soon realise that a certain Mr Redknapp might be one step ahead... Well done 'arry and team and good luck Jerrel when you return..

I did a little research, earlier this year in the U15 world cup he was the leading scorer with 15 goals and helped t&t win the 3rd spot. I really like his kid and this policy of getting young prosepects while they are still teens, that is how big teams groom superstars and we need to get into it,

all sounds good, taking this promising form onto a higher stage is the thing tho isnt it and replicating this as a 'grown up' hopefully he can tho, and can do that here... just think if these fellas do come through we could be the next arsenal - flowing football and all!

15 goals in any sort of world cup is amazing! nd what happened to the other 3 trinidadians that we were meant to be getting before? lester peltier, atullah guerra and one more...
jbaker
yep 15 goals is fantastic! there was something about the trinidadian fa not supporting the approval of a work permit as they had fallen out with the club or something, so it didnt happen for the most highly rated - peltier i think? the others i never heard anything more about...
