'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Maybe it's down to 14 again...

Djimi Traore's oversight from the Mali squad for the African nations looked to have boosted Harry Redknapp's ranks to 15 outfield players, but Cameroon coach Otto Pfister is hoping to reduce this by one again...

Lauren has not played international football with the Cameroon since the 2002 world cup finals, but some 5 years on and several refusals to come out of retirement later Pfister is hoping that he can talk him round.

To be honest Lauren would probably be one of the players that most would sacrifice in January if players had to be sold, which would make him coming out of international retirement all the more unlikely as he would not be doing a 'possible' new club many favours by signing for them and then going off to the African nations right away.

I cannot see him being talked out of retirement myself, but I can see him leaving Pompey in the New Year - and being brutally honest - compared to some others - as good as he has been over the years particularly with Arsenal he would not be one that I would mind that much if he did...

yea I doubt he will join Cameroon he is 30 years old and im sure he is more worried about his paycheck than his country which he hasnt played for in years (which as you mentioned would only hamper his chances of a move)
whitestones
i fully expected him to play this season ahead of johnson, but to be fair glen has won me over by improving his performances, however i still think last years partnership of jonson and lauren together on the right could work when utaka goes off, except i would prefer lauren to be right back and have glen in midfield unlike last season
jbaker
I hope Lauren does not go because he is versatile and we will need that type of player in Jan/Feb. Don't agree that 30 is over the hill though stones.

yep, i agree that 'if' that partnership was used it would have to be with lauren behind johnson... i had lauren as my 'nailed on' right back this season, but johnson has been 'england good' since he returned hasnt he! i think that the injuries sustained by lauren have taken their toll on him tbh.
pompeyrug
dave, you think that after a 5 year hiatus with the national team and playing just 15 matches in the last year and a half, his priorities are on his paycheck or on the national team?
whitestones
didnt we see the same with glen johnson last year too? he began really impressively, and soon his performances dropped around christmas time and lauren emerged as the preferred right back. however i do have to concede that he has performed better this year than last, he tracks back better and his tackling is vastly improved!
jbaker
yep we did but me thinking always was that he went into the comfort zone knowing he would play when fit as he was on loan - so the effort dwindled... also he is now playing to impress 'arry, pompey and its fans not anyone esle - well apart from the new england manager - so he will be totally committed to pompey wont he, not with one eye on returning to chelski... i think he's also done alot of growing up.
pompeyrug
Lauren can go to ACN will my blessing but I don't think he will .. He's better off here for the time being and whereas else is he gonna get the same kind of money.... Fulham maybe ??
Chix
If Lauren went, would he be missed, I doubt it.
