Does that make it 15 players now?

Does that make it 15 players now?

Harry Redknapp has repeatedly said that when the African nations cup comes around with the players that we will lose we will be down to 14 outfield players - can we now make this 15?

The Guardian online is reporting that Djimi Traore has been left out of the preliminary Mali squad of 28, so he is one name that we can cross off the list as he will not be going to Ghana.

Traore has hardly featured this season, but at least it does give us another option, that is assuming he will stay in January and will not be sold?

If only Sulley Muntari and/or Papa Bouba Diop were not going instead...

Rug - yoy are right it is Sulley and Papa we will miss the most the others can be covered from within the squad. But that will make a massive whole in our midfield, Krancjar, Taylor, Pedro, Davis, Arnold and Hughsie would be left but we would be missing the power which has been so vital in the recent away run.

Hmm, if he's not good enough for Mali, is he good enough for us? (And has he payed his council tax yet!!??)

Its not as if we've not already enough non-African competition for that place between Noe, Herman and Taylor.

in all fairness tho he hasnt played for mali for over a year, so its not strictly a case of him being 'surprisingly left out'... i think he refused to play in a qualifier deciding to go on holiday instead or something? agree that he probably wont get a look-in either way, but he has been a better player than i expected, so he wouldnt be bad having around... feel he could well leave in january anyway tho.

I've been thinking about this a bit lately, and realised we are going to have a few more problems during the ANC than I'd previously thought. If we keep players like Matty and don't get any injuries or suspensions, we should just about be OK, but if we do we're going to have problems. Depending who we bring in of course.

I think we'll be o.k.. Benjani looked not too bad filling in on right midfield when Kanu came on last Saturday, so, with the addition of another striker, maybe we could revert to a 4-4-2 during the ANC. As you said though tracy, it all depends on who leaves during the window and when they leave.

while i agree we will be okay as we will have a good couple of weks to bring in players before the others head off i always think that benji is wasted out on the right, so i would prefer not to see this all that often...

Benji on the right... I think that is another of Crazy Harry plans that just don't work... Why would anybody put the premiershis top scorer on the right wing to supply a 57 year old has been ...... I'm sure (as much as we all love him) that he's got more than the odd screw loose at times... but hey who am I to complain. as for Djimi he never was going anyway was he ? and will he feature whilst the others are away... probably not... might make the bench if he's lucky..

Duo sign professional Pompey deals

Will Jez Bedford and Theo Widdrington be the future Pompey midfield? We'll certainly hope so, clearly the Blues do too or they wouldn't have signed professional deals at Fratton Park.

Nathan Thompson - A Swindon perspective

Prior to his departure for Wigan, Paul Cook wanted Nathan Thompson at Pompey. Interest was retained by Kenny Jackett, who completed his free transfer signing from Swindon last week.
