Redknapp rules out Mutu move

The weekend brought some 'paper talk' that Pompey were looking at Adrian Mutu, but Harry Redknapp has told sky sports news that it was news to him and would not be happening: 'I have never thought about him. He went to Chelsea and had his problems, but I've never thought about him.

'He's a good player, but he's not a player I've ever spoken to anybody about. Where that comes from, God only knows'.

Clearly, just because Redknapp says that it will not happen it does not mean that is strictly the end of the matter, however most of us did feel there was little or no truth to this 'rumour' in the first place so we could not see it going through anyway.

Once again though he stressed the importance of bringing in players in the New Year, as we all know he needs to, and also all feel that we almost certainly will.

Even if the only moves we see are loan moves he stressed that he would do this, but getting 'quality' players on loan is difficult as clubs rarely want to loan these types of players out, unless they are promising youngsters, which might not exactly be the way we need to go?

I didnt think that the Mutu move was plausible in the first place so it comes as no surprise to me. As for the transfer situation, I hope Gaydamak reaches deep in his pockets from his finances to support another couple of reinforcements, because we will need them. I agree with you rug over the loaning of players, teams either loan young players or players that are excess, and these are usually not of Pompey quality

as said just because 'arry says it wont happen, it doesnt mean it wont, but few thought this was likely anyway did they... im not saying that we are 'too good' to loan in players now, but we have moved no from a team 'happy' to take on youngsters that clubs have in order to groom them, and the established players are not available for loan anyway are they - if they are they are not really of the 'highest' quality are they, and this is what we are after now...
pompeyrug
I agree Im all in for loaning players, but from where can we loan players from? the top 4, players from the other clubs are no better than the players we currently have and are not playing. and who is available? i'l just speculate for the hell of it : da silva from arsenal, fletcher and anderson from manu, pennant and lucas from l'pool...
whitestones
all bar fletcher and pennant are players that i would happily want us to take on loan...
pompeyrug
Fletcher!! i reckon he'd struggle to get in the Scum squad....
pentonpompey
To say we're too big to loan players is laughable, even Manure have loaned Tevez!!!
pentonpompey
Penton don't be silly!! No-one would struggle to get in the Scum squad would they? But back to sensible subjects will we sign loan players in the window? The answer is yes - we have a big squad and a good squad but with up to five missing we have no choice. A few might leave but unless HR can find the right player at the right price reinforcements will have to come on loan.
eastneydave
Ok your right dave...Loaning is our main option i think, as this is obviously short term initially, who knows if the loanees perform
pentonpompey
and more to the point, who would be willing to loan out there star striker to us? particually with a decent goal scorer being in such high demand, i wouldntn want to loan my best goal scorer - and they would have to be best, otherwise what would be the point?
pompeycarpet
no one has said we are too good to loan players carpet, but the types of players that we could loan in are not the types of players that will fully benefit us, as they might have in the past - they will merely be 'stop gaps' for a few weeks and will get limited time after that, so do we simply loan them for a month or 2, or take them until the end of the season... i cannot see many of the top clubs loaning us players - can you?
pompeyrug
Remember my brother Chelsea link prediction in the forum?.... It's gonna happen he's convinced of it...
Chix
if we are on chelski's coat tails im not so sure they would be so keen, still wouldnt mind loaning scott sinclair tho!
pompeyrug
Mutu? He's not six foot plus and African though! No chance! Seriously though, was a good goalscorer in his day, but his day has passed on...
Tantona
My thought exactly, Tatona. Get the rack & boot polish out.
