Crouchy is the one that we want

From the names most commonly linked with Pompey Peter Crouch is the one that we want! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from whitestones' poll are thoughts that I do not share to be honest.

I was a very big fan of Crouch when he was first at Fratton, and although not everyone has been keen on him over the years I have always thought that he was a better footballer than he was given credit for, so I would welcome a return - and do not think this would mean us playing 'a long ball game' as this is not our way, nor is it his, he does not like this as he likes it to feet.

Leroy Lita is a player that I like, so would happily also see him at Pompey but as most of you will know I have always had this feeling that we will see Jermain Defoe at Pompey sometime this season. I was sure that it would happen last summer, when it did not I still felt that January could be the time, and it still could.

When I was up in Birmingham yesterday I was told that Crouch had apparently been in the area viewing a new home, so it looks as though Villa Park could be his destination, with it also said that Defoe is another that is being very closely linked and could well join him...

What the poll asked - Which one of these player talked about in the media would you most like to see in a Pompey uniform?

How you voted - Peter Crouch 41%, Leroy Lita 21%, Jermaine Defoe 18%, Andres D'Alessandro 12%, Jonas Gutierrez 4%, Gyan Asamoah 4%

Current Poll - Benjani started the season like a house on fire with the goals he was scoring, but these had dried up a bit recently, so is he still the man to top our scoring chats?

The goals have been shared around a fair bit more recently, and the goals that Benjani is now scoring have dried up a little. Will he still be the fella to finish as out top scorer this season or will it be someone else - this is what Et_tu_Pompeii wants to know with this - 'so who now will finish the season as our top scorer?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

I voted for Crouch as I would love to see him learning from Kanu.
Pompeyscum
crouchy is the english kanu isnt he... agreed crouchy could learn from kanu who is the master but maybe kanu could also learn abit from crouchy :-)
pompeyrug
not really sure who i want - but we need a goal scorer, and i think lita could get the goals - but he hasnt been playing much recently, so im becoming less convinxced he would get them? that said, he would be linked up with nugent again (if he stays) who played together succesfully in the u21s...so maybe...
pompeycarpet
'arry has not had the best of times finding strikers down the years has he, but i think whoever he gets in will be the right striker and will get the goals that we need.
pompeyrug
I dont prefer Crouch, but if we got him I would still be happy because he does have some quality. The only thing I dont like about his transfer is that he would be pricey and that may mean that we would have to sell some quality players for low price to finance his move.
whitestones
STAY AWAY FROM OUR CROUCHY!!!
Aamir
I think Lita would flourish, although I can't see it happening, Can't imagine Harry having two young strikers on the books learning their trade. Although if we're going down that route, Marlon King has all the attributes
pentonpompey
Think you might end up disappointed on this one, I think he is on the way back to Villa.
The Fear
In all honesty, i can't ever see Crouchy back here, i think he thinks he's too good for a small club like ours
pentonpompey
Sorry to disappoint you Fear but, HE'S STICKING WITH US!
Aamir
whitestones, tbh mate if we want a player of crouchy's stature we will have to pay the money - so in that case that means we will have to sell to buy anyone? if we have 7m-10m that we can use on a striker then to get one of the quality we need - such as crouchy - that's what it will cost... we are going to have to pay the price to get an improvment in quality that we are looking for...
pompeyrug
i dont think that crouchy does think that he is bigger than a club like pompey pentonpompey, but like The Fear says i think that crouchy could be destined for villa park - either way desipte the liverpool protets i think that he will leave them in january, unless perhaps benitez and his rotation policy has gone?
pompeyrug
Crouchy wants to stay. Rafa wants him to stay. We, the fans, want him to stay. It would be a disaster if he left.
Aamir
im not so sure that crouchy does want to stay at liverpool tbh mate - he wants to play regular football and i cannot see him getting that under benitez... the fella just cannot help tinkering with things, that is why liverpool will never win the league again so long as benitez is the boss, you cannot afford to keep rotating as frequently as he does if you want to win the league...
pompeyrug
I guess I just dont rate him as highly as you rug
whitestones
I'm quite sure he does because of the amount of times he has said (to the official site, not dirty rags) he wants to stay at Liverpool. And he does seem to be getting an extended run at the moment.
Aamir
that fair enough whitestones... we'll see what happens Aamir, but i really will be surprised if crouchy is still a liverpool player come the end of january...
pompeyrug
aamir - that was pretty much the oposite to the impression that i was getting from him - or rather the dirty rags... either way, i dont think i would like him as much as lita..
pompeycarpet
dont get me wrong i do think lita would be a fine signing and would do a job but the thing with crouchy over lita is crouchy is proven - lita isnt fully is he, and his attitude is questionable...
pompeyrug
Its all hotting up again with all the speculation...I do think Lita will come as part of a swap deal..maybe Hughes, although was linked with Derby. Matt Taylor is another candidate but he linked with everyone including a swap for Anton Ferdinand. Mutu is another possibility but i doubt that one. Crouch would se it as a back ward step now he is a SUPERSTAR..scummer. Defoe..he's also a big fish so i doubt that he would condescend to join us. So the only option i see apart from any foreign player i may have overlooked is Leroy Lita
plymouth graham
PS.Hey Rug are you a secret Villa fan...Im sure i saw you sat with the brummies....it wasnt you shouting all tht abuse at our Harry was it
plymouth graham
the speculation is going to heat up now isnt it graham - i still reckon that it depends on how high we are in the league, if we are high enough we could get any of these names including crouchy or defoe - who didnt sound too happy on motd2 yesterday... yep you would have seen me on the motd highlights - i only saw myself briefly, it was just after laursen had headed wide his free header, so i was looking on in shock that it might have been a goal - but glad it wasnt!
pompeyrug
Penton....small club?
NinjaTim
in terms of overall stature and so on pompey are 'a small club' arent they, but the argument of what makes a club a big club or a small club can ramble on for hours cant it...
pompeyrug
Sorry fellas I'm going back to the very top of the thread .... Crouch could learn from Kanu...... Learn what exactley how to become a lazy *****e that has no interest in the game or the team but is quite happy to be 'the ambassador' to the Africans.... With or without Kanu's help Liverpool can do whatever they want with Crouch but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.. DO NOT SELL HIM TO US.Pleeeeeeeeeease Rafa pleeeeeeeease
Chix
id prefer defoe or lita to crouch.
jbaker
You don't always get what you want & great as it might be to have him back, I can't see it happening.
storagematt
i fink he would do well at pompy! coz he hardley plays 4 liverpool !
