Pompey after Stuttgart defender?

Amongst all the palaver last week when Harry Redknapp was basically stitched up a question that a lot of people asked was, 'who was he watching at the Stuttgart v Rangers champions league game?'

Well, according to the mirror it is Stuttgart defender Fernando Meira.

Defence does not seem to be our problem does it, so this does seem a strange one, even more so when you consider that he is 29 - so not even 'one for the future'. Another thing to take into account is that as a Portuguese international you could not see him wanting to come to be a 'bit part player' could you.

To be honest I do not really know many of the Stuttgart players so I do not know who else it could have been, but I would have thought he would be more likely to have been looking at a striker or possibly a winger?

Then again it could have been a Rangers player - but with respect to them I am not sure who it would have been either.

He must have been looking at a person or persons, but who? At the moment only Meira's name is coming forward, but as I say this seems a strange one...

Could also be German U-21 international Andreas Beck, a lot of clubs are now linked to him.

I seriously doubt that they are going after Meira, since we already have an excess of defenders and will be looking to sell 1 or 2. Stutgart has a bunch of quality players, there is the striker Gomez (who I rate very highly), Hitzlesperger (a solid left midfielder, used to play for Villa i think), Khedira (20 year old midfielder), Hilbert (German international, right winger), as for Rangers they also have a handfull of quality player one name that sticks out is Beasely (the American international winger who was on loan at Man City last year)

I must admit that I prefer Whitestones targets rather than the Mirror's. But only HR knows and until he signs up as a member, lol, we will have to wait and see.

good points whitestones plenty of good names there mate. i thought that hitzlsperger played for them - now there's a fella i wouldnt mind us getting but that would definitely mean the end of the road for matty taylor wouldnt it...

it appears to me that it is the end of the road for him anyways, there were plenty of opportunities that he could have come in when the other wingers weren't playing up to par but 'arry just isn't favoring him at the moment

yep probably so - it will be a sad day if/when matty taylor leaves but if it is for the best, or believed to be the best for both player and club then so be it... 'arry knows what he is doing, so long as we dont lose sight with an english core, which we do have.

But why has Harry lost faith/fallen out with/disregarded Matty? Does anyone have any idea? Last year he was the Dogs, well he was a big member of the team.
