Pompey travel to Ipswich

Pompey travel to Ipswich

Pompey have been drawn away to Ipswich in the 3rd round of the cup, so a nice visit to Portman Road against a good Ipswich side awaits us early in the new year.

We played Ipswich a couple of years back when we beat them 1-0 at the same stage thanks for a Dario Silva header I believe, with this also taking place at Portman Road.

I for one am hoping for a long and successful cup run this season, so although the draw could have been kinder, it could have been a lot worse couldn't it - ideally being at Fortress Fratton would have been preferable, but having said that the way our away form is going this season maybe we would have rather been away anyway...

This cup game will be our first weekend game of 2008 and will come after a visit to Reading on new years day, during the week prior.

What do we reckon fellas, are we happy with this tie? We should be really shouldn't we, and - with all due respect to Ipswich - we ought to win it too...

No they are sat on the top of a tractor!! As to the draw could be worse but Ipswich have a good home recoed and after a busy Xmas period we will need to field a strong side to ensure safe passage to the 4th round.

Great mention has been made about the absence of key players during the African Nations but we have forgotten about the FA Cup games. This is a competition we need to do well in this year (even win!!) given a bit of luck in the draw but bringing in loan players as HR has hinted is OK if we can play them in the Cup.

Not the most exciting of draws, but it'll do, and it should be winnable - lets hope for a decent cup run! At least its not as uninspiring as the draw that Havant & Ville got - such a shame for them!

The pace and power of Pompey's 4-3-3 should completely overwhelm them - but this is the FA cup.

ipswich have a phenominal home record dont they - 12 wins out of their last 13, and even that 13th was a draw... if only we could also have their home record we'd be top of the league :-)

tracyc, you could look at it this way tho, the hawks might now think 'we have a chance to get into round 4' as a result of the draw they got... i know they wont get the cash, but they have a chance of another round too dont they and more to follow.

speaking of joe jordan a few of us were talking about him at the game on saturday and what a fantastic job he has done with us - he could have easily walked away when 'arry went like others id but he stayed, he could have also walked away - or been pushed - when 'arry again come back, but he stayed... alot of praise goes to 'arry and adams with jordon often overlooked, but he has done a wonderful job hasnt he. could he be in the running for the scotland job perhaps?

Joe is a class act & always has been. Don't think he'd allow a kid sitting next to him in photo op to wear an England shirt though Rabbi !!!

Ipswich away is fine. We should count ourselves luck considering the draws that some others got. I have a really good feeling about our Cup run. Hope it turns out. 4-4-2 at home fixtures please Arry.

Third time lucky? Nope as O'Shea interest ends

O'Shea saw a couple of bids for him put in; these were turned down by Chesterfield. A third bid hasn't come from Pompey and it isn't going to either.

Topping last seasons tally the aim

78pts was only enough for a play-off place last season so you suspect we'll have to better that for a top 3 finish this coming season, which begins with Carlisle at Fratton.
