Real footballs back with Pompey

Now that we have got the latest international break out of the way and with it England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008 - what a long summer this will be! - the real business of club football with Pompey returns this weekend - thankfully.

This has been the moment that I have been waiting for and looking forward to ever since the 0-0 draw with City in our last outing - and I am sure I am not alone in that thinking...

We travel to struggling Birmingham not only looking to keep our impressive away run going, but our impressive run going full stop, but there is more, we go into this game at St Andrews chasing a new club record.

Should we avoid defeat we would set a new premier league record for games unbeaten.

Currently we have equalled our previous record of 8 unbeaten, set during our first season back in the top flight in the 2003/04 season - a run that saw us to safety and a run that also included a win over Birmingham, but this came at the Fortress.

18 points from the last 24 available tends to suggest that we should avoid defeat but we will not take anything for granted, however I would be bitterly disappointed if we came away with anything less than a point, to be honest though I do feel we will win anyway - make your own predictions in the Pompey predictions league here.

Birmingham are managerless, we're in superb form - there can only be on winner surlely?? Yep, this is our 'banana skin' and have a gut feeling we'll go down 2-1 to Brum. (Could be reverse psychology)

god, i hope that you are wrong mate - but i can more than understand your logic here... altho i dont think we will slip up, the brummies will be in termoil and i think we we see them off quite comfortably - not that i am expecting an 'easy' game of course.

We have nothing to fear at Birmingham, and i reckon a draw is the least that we will get, and i reality we should get the win. They are in turmoil at the moment and we should just go and have a go at them, especially if Kanu and Utaka are fit.

i think both should be fit, but tbh i wouldnt mind if kanu wasnt... i like the fella, but we can cope without him and it would give nuge more of a chance - and im going to back him to open his league account this weekend!

interesting to see what response niko gets? I think in the long run he may have saved English football from a terrible fate.

I heard somewhere that they might bring back a variation of the Home Championship next summer, since all 4 home countries are out. Anybody else hear the rumour ?

not heard the rumour, but i would love to see it - in fact, i have wanted it to be the case, as in the rugby "6 nations" for a very long time. dont care about kanu - or utaka particully - as matty can do a good job on the left, and kranjcar - saviour of english football - can play on the right. and i have to agree with scott mc, whenever we play away agaisnt a "poor" team, i inmediatly think we are about to slip up...i hope we wont, but ive got to go for 2-1 brum.

Yep, there were some terrific Home Championship clashes back in the day. Great football. Maybe the Republic could join in for good measure.

it looks like it will be wales, scotland, northern ireland and the republic of ireland... but not england!

Hartlepool (a) - Safety first!

A win at Wimbledon made sure of a play-offs place. Technically we can finish in the top 3 but this would require an unlikely set of results from too many clubs wouldn't it?
