News on Primus and Benjani

Linvoy Primus was expected to be out for a long time after knee surgery but I did not think it would be quite as long as it appears it will be - with his targeted return date being March next year.

He will spend the next couple of months in a cast and on crutches before then stepping up his rehabilitation next year, before finally looking to push on and earn a first team place again.

In order to claim an assured extension to his current contract Primus needs to play 20 matches, which would now look highly unlikely.

Taking into account the amount of games that will be left by the time he returns surely this figure will have to be reduced? My thinking is that so long as he can prove his fitness between his return date and the end of the season that would be enough...

As far as Benjani goes recent speculation has suggested that Juventus were interested in making a move for him in the New Year.

Quotes attributed to Benjani in a Zimbabwean paper claim the he says not only have they made an offer, but he does not want to go as he wants to stay here: 'Juventus have made the offer and my club knows about that but they are already talking about a contract which I believe will be much better than the offer from Juventus.

'I am happy at Portsmouth and I will be staying there for some time to come'.

Clearly these quotes are not true just because they claim they are, but if they have any truth at all it at least shows that as most of us suspected he would not want to go anyway.

The cynical out there could think that this is just something 'planted' in the papers by his agent to ensure that the new contract that has been spoken about recently does materialise.

Good luck to Linvoy on the long trail back. And good for Benji, why would he want to join a small club like Juve lol. He will be far happier here.

Great news about the legend that is Linvoy, i just hope the club make a statement in regard to the 20 game trigger so we can all move on from that worry, he deserves the loyalty from the club. As for Benjani, dont Juventus have the following strikers, Del Piero, Nedved,Palladino,Olivera,Trezeguet and Iaquinta, his chances would be really limited whereas he is a cult figure who knows he is loved by us, he would not take a backward step and join such a small club as Juve.

Benjani will of course stay here, he knows just how highly we (the fans) value his contribution. Damn shame about Linvoys' delayed return - get back soon fella!

gutted that optimus will be out for as long as he will be - i thought it would be a while, but not as long as it seems it will... as Owenpompey says this '20 games' trigger has to be re-thought, and hopefully some statement will be made on this on the pompey site soon? benji will finish his career with us i reckon - well the meaningful part of it anyway.

Good luck to lovely Linvoy with his recovery - March is an awful long time, but at least he is coming back. I'm sure the club will sort something out about his contract.

If gods looking down on anyone of us Pompey lot its Linvoy surely?

With you all the way Linvoy.

Not sure Pompey will re-think the 20 game contract thing as after all (like Kanu) it is put in there in case injuries interrupt the season ... that's the whole point of it surely, That said I'd love to see Linvoy in a Pompey shirt again .... Hopefully if fit he might be able to feature in our final push for european football. As for Benji he's going nowhere but I can't think of a player we've had that's ever been linked to Juventus .. show how far we have come
