Redknapp to St James'? I think not

Apparently over the weekend there were 'quiet whispering' about Newcastle being interested in nabbing Harry Redknapp should the barcodes dispense of Fat Sam but Peter Storrie has acted swiftly to tell The News it is nothing more than speculation based on his success here and he will not be going anywhere: 'when you are doing well your team gets linked with everyone.

'Like all players, everybody talks about Benji, Muntari, Utaka, Distin and on and on and on. They are people who are doing very well for this football club and Harry's the same.

'What he has achieved here has obviously caught people's eyes.

'Everything is going very, very well and unfortunately he will get linked with other clubs.

'But he's not going anywhere.

'Harry has just signed a new contract and is very happy here. If he wasn't happy, surely he wouldn't have even signed the contract?'

This must have been such a 'quiet' rumour as reading about it on the Pompey pages was the first I had heard about it!

What is the price you pay for being successful, as both players and managers? You will be linked with other clubs - but my thinking is this is nothing more than idle speculation that has little or no truth to it at all, something that was drummed up by the media due to a 'quiet news day' and the simple fact that he is doing well with Pompey.

Besides why would Redknapp want to leave Pompey for Newcastle? I have nothing against them, in fact I quite like them but they can offer nothing - apart from a bigger, and more modern stadium - that we cant, if anything it looks as though we are moving further forward than they are, which is a case that we can point to against many top flight teams now.

Yep Redknapp will get linked with other jobs the further he carries on taking us forward, the same will apply to our players the better they perform but I am convinced we will see Redknapp play out his managerial days with Pompey now - only the England job would tempt him and even that might not appeal to him that much...

Striped tripe is how they should be known. Once again mere speculation from he press must be a quiet day if Russia had won they would by on someone elses back.

Well put Midge.... I mean 'arrys never ever been tempted north of Watford has he and given his love of the countryside where he lives and the fact that he's only just signed a new contract he's hardly gonna up sticks. The people that report this tripe show that they know nothing of Footballs characters otherwise they would know there's more chance of England winning Euro 2008 than there is of Harry taking over at Newcastle

Harry will never leave Sandbanks, the only move he will ever make would be to buyout Bournemouth one day

i think harry made it quite clear what he thought of newcastle, when i sent out a side to destroyt them 4-1. no, seriosly, that is the biggest load of rubish i have ever heard...in fact, i didnt here it untill i read this...but its still a load of rubish.

Harry will not go up there, he loves living where he does and you cant imagine him going there and taking another poison chalice. Although they are a massive club etc. they are going nowhere at the moment and it will take Sam a bit of time to turn it around but he will if given the chance, Harry has done all the hard work now he just needs one injection of cash in January and we will be off on the next phase of his plan.

I have just seen that Graham Paddon has died, he was a coach with Jim Smith when we got to the cup semi-final. Another nice man has gone, god bless him

To respond to Owenspompey. You're right mate, just read the sad passing of Graham Padden. I met him once with Jim Smith prior to an away game at Bristol Rovers in January 1992. A very sad loss. As I was an early follower to the great game in the early 70s, he stood out. He was only 57.

i think we are all in agreement here that the papers must have had 'a quiet day' so this seemed like a tiny enough strand for them to pull at... not that this strand has yielded any success!

ive got to be honest i do not know a great deal about graham padden - so i cannot comment too much, but anyone with a pompey history is always sadly lost... if anyone has anything they would maybe want to put together in way of tribute to him feel free, i will of course publish it on your behalf.

Have you read the Mirror today? Now Harry has turned down the Birmingham job, what are they going on about? Tomorrow he will be linked with Real, Barcelona and AC Milan, get to grips lads, we know he has begun to turn Pompey around, so leave us alone and pick on some out of work manager, like Atkinson or Souness or the great Sammy Lee. He could be in the frame for the Leicester job, pity he has no links there!!

Of course he won't go. But it is a credit to the job he is doing and the great manager he is that his name is being linked with vacant posts all over the place - so he should take it as a compliment.

i honestly laughed out loud when i read in the mirror that the brummies wanted 'arry to take over - the barcodes link was bad enough, but that is just insulting... yep, this is something that will happen more and more to him and our players - but few, including 'arry, will go anywhere!

It's nice to bewanted. Quite frankly when the missus turns ugly and the results aren't coming in, you look at other options, but when she's a glammer and keeps bonking the points in the bag (so to speak) you keep going with the tried and true. I agree 'arry will only leave us for England or Bournemouth, and never another sojurn to Scumland.
