Sometimes you get the impression that it is just not meant to be for you and surely if Spineless Steve does push on with the idea that Scott Carson could start the Croatia game on Wednesday David James will get this message once and for all...
I tire of saying how much I feel James is - and has been for the past 18 months - the best English keeper that we have, but no matter what he does - or others do! - he just cannot get the England no.1 shirt that he deserves, but if Carson is retained as the no.1 this week James will now be down to no.3!
It took Spineless Steve long enough to bring him back, but my thinking is he only did this to bow to the public pressure that was being heaped on him, it was not a move to rightfully install him as the no.1 - so although James is proud to be a part of the squad it does look as if his time is coming to an end - again!
It does not concern me that he is 37, he is a very young 37, so I would like nothing more than to see James stay as part of the squad for as long as possibly and 100% believe that he could not only be a part, but could be the no.1 for another good few years but its not going to happen so rather than being cast aside again I almost wish he would call it a day and concentrate purely on Pompey...
Amazingly Sol Campbell might also miss out too against Croatia as John Terry has apparently returned to the squad and looks as though he will be fit to face Croatia, so it is either Campbell or Joleon Lescott that will make way.
Campbell's experience would surely see him given the nod on an evening where no chances, or risks can be taken - which would also make Carson a starter seem a bold move by the otherwise 'spineless one'...
Niko Kranjcar though is looking to gatecrash the party and insists that Croatia will be looking for a win against England, a win that would send a message out to the other nations ahead of the Euro 2008 finals.
