The tables do not lie - do they?
They say 'the table does not lie', and that is true as Pompey are currently 6th because we deserve to be there - but the same applies to several Pompey stars who are flying high in the Actim Index.
Statistically Pompey have 4 of the best players in the country, in all the key areas.
David James - are you watching Spineless Steve - tops the keeping charts, in 24th place overall too...
Glen Johnson sits in 3rd in the defenders charts, 12th overall...
John Utaka is in 5th for the midfielders, 11th overall...
Benjani sits top of the strikers pile and 2nd in the overall race behind Cesc Fabregas...
You could argue that just because statistically they are among the best, if not the best it might not necessarily put them among the best, however trying to view this in an impartial manor - as I do try - if you are consistently ticking all the right boxes in the areas they analyse then you are doing something right, so you are among the best right?
It also shows that not everything good about the game goes noticed, as in recent weeks I had personally felt that Utaka had been overall pretty poor to be honest, but to have remained in the top 5 for the midfielders and just outside of the overall top 10 he must still be doing plenty of good - unless his flying start really worked in his favour...
The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player's contribution be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards.

James doesn't surprise me, nearer does Benji, Johnson I struggle with a bit but Utaka !! - DOn't get me wrong I like the bloke but I too, Like rug have not been that impressed with his 'total' contribution for the past couple of game.. but if he's classified as a midfielder (is he really) then scoring the odd goal or too is going to do his stats no end of good - Whether the stats are right or wrong it's great to see Pompey players near the top of a chart for their profession - Keep it going fellas ... Krunchie should be there or thereabouts next month too I suspect.. And what about Distin !

yep if distin and krunchie arent in the recoking shortly i will be very surprised... johnson has been fantastic since he came back, i wasnt a fan tbh but i have well and truely been converted - if he doesnt get back into the england squad shortly it will be criminal, the gulf between chelski and pompey in as much as what we think is a quality player must be something if he was deemed suprlus to requirement...

Storage.. I've come to the conclusion that Merlin doesn't have a job.. He pops up every so often to make a comment and is never there to reply to resonses on what he says - He just pops in and pops out again on this and everyother vital site i'm sure.. Merlin if you leave a coomment at least come back and comment on it sfter we've all had our say...

i certainly think that he will Chix, if he doesnt then we are either much better off for right back than i thought or johnson is not as good as he is looking... not sure he will be a regular started, but should be a regular in the squad at least...

I hope you are right Rug - It's great to see Pompey players representing their county - The World Cup in a couple of years is goona be great ... Well come to think of it the African Nations deserves the best watch yet... I just know who to support ... Ghana or Nigeria or Cameroon ...

No Johnson is never going to play becaus of those class acts the Neville brothers and the mighty Wes Brown!!
All Glenn can do is keep plugging away producing great form and languishing at Fratton Park wondering what he has to do to get in the England squad.

well, with wes borwn playing well, week in, week out, and phil neville doing so well at right back - not to mention micah richards' performances every week at right back...do england actually have a right back in our squad???

to be honest, jamo topping the keepers was about as surprising as fabregas being top overall. Utaka had such a great start, top man for october - it will take time for people to usurp him, benji has been fantastic, and the top goal scorer in the prem, so no surprises there either. in fact, the only surprise is that krunchie and distin are so far down...

I think we are all pleased and somewhat proud of the way our players have performed so far this season, the ones we have mentioned have done really well, but also the ones not named have done a fantastic job for us.
We have a good squad now and with two or three more additions we will have a squad to challenge the best in the Premiership no matter who they are, bloody Chelsea and Arsenal above all.

yep agree mate, some are getting alittle more credit and recognition than others but this season is a real case of no 'i' in team for us isnt it.

yep, its fair to say we werent 'sure' about him but he has been fantastic a real joy to watch at times... his attacking play has been top class, but he has also learnt how to defend abit more too!
