We will fail and Spineless must go!
England will not be able to make it to the finals of Euro 2008 and Spineless Steve must be sacked! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts that I do share, particularly the Spineless Steve to go bit, but still hold out hope that we can make it.
We are not confident, only a combined 16% believe that 'yes' England will make it, but even 11% of that was a yes, but more in hope than expectation!
It is going to be increasingly hard for England to qualify for Euro 2008, even if Russia do slip up to Israel we still might not make it, although I am still hopeful that we can. I might dislike Spineless Steve, but I do not dislike him enough to be content with England not qualifying for him to be given the boot.
Things might not be looking good, but you never know...
Either way England desperately need to make a change as things are not going to get much better under Spineless Steve really are they, so it is time the FA grew a pair and did the right thing - which is sack him regardless of what happens.
Harry Redknapp has called for the FA - should they, as they ought to, replace Spineless Steve - to get 'real football people' such as himself, Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger involved in selecting the next man and he is spot on, these fellas know what they are doing the FA clearly do not...
This is what Redknapp told the Sun: 'I really hope the FA are not looking for a new England manager this time next week. But, if that should be the case then please let us have some real football people making the decision.
'I do not have too much faith in the FA's international committee getting it right.
'We all know there will be a huge backlash if England miss out, and history suggests that when the team fails, the manager goes.
'Then we are all in the hands of Brian Barwick and his chums to find the right man.
'With the greatest of respect, the likes of Phil Gartside, Dave Richards and David Sheepshanks have not always got it right when selecting a new manager for their clubs. So why should we trust them to appoint the new England boss?'

Benjani currently not only leads the way for Pompey in the goalscoring stakes, but also leads the way in the premier league charts, but will this remain the same come January - possibly on both counts - this is want tozopompey wants to know with this - 'who will be the clubs highest goal scorer before the January transfer window?' Lets hope McClaren will go. if he does he will go with a payoff far in excess of his worth. His departure will hopefully also mark the end of several players international careers. Some of the U-21 side should be given a run out soon. I'm not too concerned with the nationalty of his successor (should he go?). To be honest I think most Pompey fans care more about the club than they do their country. While I'm on the subject I also think the business of making premier league clubs have quotas of English players is doomed to failure. This country has produced enough players, its just that they aren't good enough when put together in a national team and asked to obey the tactical brain that is Steve McClaren. I also don't understand why most of the U-21's are an automatic selection for Stuart pearce and yet ignored once they pass the age limit by most England managers? I feel a site poll coming on...

if the fa want to try to redeem themselves in some way they will get rid of spineless regardless of what happens - yep it will involve a large pay off if he is sacked, but if we dont qualify - as looks likely - i was under the impression that he can be sacked without having to pay up his salary... agree with the u21 thoughts - more need to be given a chance, so we need a manager that wont be afraid to do this and isnt afraid to blood young talent and wont 'always' pick his favourites... the ignoring of the u21 stars almost makes the whole point of having an u21 side, well pointless...

When we fail, not if, he must be given the chance to resign with dignity, and if he refuses then sack him, and let him go to Burnley, sorry Burnley fans but he will get a job with someone wont he?
He has been a disgrace and deserves the bullet.
Downing, Smith,Bridge and Beckham prove how poor this man has been.

i would completely agree with the downing, smith and the farce that is now beckham but only in the respect that he has only just come back is the bridge inclusion wrong... lets not forget wes brown constantly being in the fold too not to mention his constant oversight of the best english keeper of the last 18 months. yep give the fella a chance to resign, if he wont - as i suspect he wont - kick him out, hopefully for burnley's sake not even to them!

let me add to this discussion: sacking McClaren would be a blessing for England, while and appointing a (foreign) manager who would have the bo11ox to drop some of those overpaid premadonnas and play the in-form players would be a master-stroke! The spineless attribute extends all the way to the inept personnel at the FA, who have no vision how to improve the football in England and have now resorted to blaming the foreigners and asking for quotas. 35% of the players in EPL are English, and when adding the Scots, Irish, Welsh and N.Irish - goes up to a little over 50%. No professional youth academy (the arch on Wembley was more important) in the country that invented football. Well, if you can't qualify by being one of the top TWO teams in a group made of Andora, Estonia, Macedonia, Israel, Croatia and Russia - it must be the fault of the foreign players who made all that money for the FA.

NO, i only liked him when he played mcarone in the ufea cup, and they beat them teams to reach the final, then he scews things up and loses 4-0! now i hate him, one of the most boring characters in football, and if i had a penny for everytime I wanted to hit him, i would have a helluva lot of pennys

Good shout Stroage and one I totally agree with but I fear as I said before those at the FA don't have the balls to do anything about it - I can see him staying and only being sacked when we are in trouble and looking in danger of not qualifying for the World Cup.. Sad point of view I know but one that I believe will be the case ... I really hope I'm wrong

the simple truth is he isnt good enough to manage england - he is a very, very good coach but a bad possibly even poor manager... its sad when 'the mighty' england have to be reliant on other to qualify for a major tournament. granted the euros are probably harder to qualify for the world cup but even so - in what was a toughish group - we should have been virtually home and dry by now... the fa need to grow a pair and git rid before we slip even further off the radar...

I am not aware of any true supporter who wants him to stay on and lead our national team.
He must be replaced as soon as possible.

ive spoken to alot of people on this issue and i too have never found anyone that thinks he is the wya forward... The Rabbi has sent me a couple of polls, the 1st - which will go on tonight - should tell the tale...

Tell you what Rug you couldn't do a worse job mate... Just think about it 18 months work for about five million quid.. Ok so you might get the 'odd' slating in the press but you could cope with it surely... The biggest difference would be that you wouldn't fool yourself into thinking you knew everything about the international whereas I think ur 'friend' Spineless truly believes he is the man for the job and the man that can take England forward.... Deluded or what - Rug for England I say !!

when you look at it like that i think i could probably do the job - i wouldnt be 'afraid' to pick those that deserve to play and wouldnt be 'afriad' to leave the big boys out... yep, on 2nd thoughts i could do it - i will put my cv forward to the fa next week when spineless goes ;-) yep, rug for england lets get this campaign up and running!

Mclaren will still be in charge if we fail to qualify. He was a cheap replacement for Sven and he's a Fa 'yes man'.
