I like Jonas - but not that much...

I like Jonas - but not that much...

Harry Redknapp has dismissed the suggestion that Pompey could pay Real Mallorca £7m for winger Jonas 'Spiderman' Gutierrez - as had been suggested - with what he has told The News: 'I like Gutierrez, but not at the price they are asking.

'If it's £7m, he's too much for me'.

So he has ruled out paying that for him - but he has not ruled out a move for him full stop...

Pompey have been tracking him for several months now and as we have found out when we track a player for that long more often than not we sign them, so providing the co-ownership issues between Mallorca and Velez Sarsfield - his previous club - can be sorted out, meaning that Pompey do not have to pay over the odds for him then my thinking is he could quite possibly arrive in January.

He has not been prolific in Spain, but then how many wingers are overly prolific really? Yep you do get a few, but most are there for the assists they provide, not the goals they score - these are added bonuses.

In all fairness you do not get many dodgy Argentine internationals really, so he must have plenty of class about him to be an Argentinean international - plus for Pompey to have tracked him for as long as we have he must have something about him.

I would not back against him still signing, the thought of him donning a Spiderman mask and then showing off in front of the Fratton End almost makes me want us to sign him alone - but not for £7m...

You lot have the best English manager around by a long shot. And thats the reason the rest of the league respect your club,Well done Pompey.

Nice of you to say, my fear is that the FA come to their senses and offer Harry the England job, he would be the best manager not neccessarily the best coach, but he does have the habit of producing competative teams and i have no doubt that he would do the job for England. As for Guitierrez if it is a complicated deal then we should leave well alone and concentrate on easier targets, and knowing Harry those targets will have been well scouted and looked at.

cheers SweetLeftFoot, as Owenspompey says nice of you to say such a thing... we dont want any 'dodgy' or 'difficult' deals going on do we, so if gutierrez is going to be just that we would be better off looking elsewhere - i would still like to see him do his goal celebration tho :-)
15/11/2007 13:39:00
the more time that goes by the more i am starting to get alittle uneasy that the fa 'might' change there ways and approach someone like 'arry for the england job - whilst i want what is best for england, i want what is best for pompey more and pray this doesnt happen...
15/11/2007 13:41:00
It would be a big decision for Harry to have to make if he came into the frame, and whilst we all would want him to stay until he retired, you could understand him wanting the challenge of managing England.
15/11/2007 16:21:00
He certainly deserves the England job, no doubt about it and would probably do a great job, but I doubt that the FA would have the good sense to offer it to him to be honest. Also he's no spring chicken any more and might actually have enough sense to not take a job with so much pressure and guaranteed hell from the British press at 60. Although then again, the challenge might prove tempting. Hope he doesn't though, want him to stay at Pompey at all costs.

if harry does get england job, does that mean that tony adams would take charge? god help us...
15/11/2007 17:11:00
god help us? i think tony would do a reasonable job. but harry would nver leave pompey, just signed a new contract, were on the up, and hes wise enought to realize that the england job is a curse.
15/11/2007 18:50:00
I agree with you, and to be honest gleamer i dont think he will be offered it, as he is probably the best and most suitable candidate. They will probably give the job to Sammy Lee or some other muppet.
15/11/2007 20:20:00
Harry won't take the England job. He'll miss all the day to day stuff that keeps him going. Anyway we need him.
