Benji to be rewarded with a new deal

Benji to be rewarded with a new deal

Benjani might still have a year and a half to run on his current deal but Harry Redknapp has told The News that he is going nowhere after his blistering start to the season and Pompey are about to offer him a new contract: 'Benjani is going nowhere. He is a big player for us, an important one.

'Peter Storrie is going to sit down with him and start talking about another contract.

'He has come so far for us and it's great to see him scoring goals'.

Who does not love Benjani?

Okay maybe opposing defences as he runs them ragged, but we do. He is a typical Pompey player - he gives his all every single time he plays and never gives up, adding goals to his repertoire now is a massive added bonus.

To also see a player with such happiness at what he has got and playing with a constant smile makes you like him even more. I have never personally met him but I would think he is one of the most likable people around and someone that appreciates what he has more than most...

Even when he was not scoring goals you were hard pushed to find a Pompey fan who would have a serious bad word to say about him - now that he is scoring those that were - other fans and media pundits - are giving him the credit he deserves and no longer ridiculing him - and they did something chronic.

The fella has earned a new deal, he is the top scorer in the premier league - how good does that sound - that means he deserves a little more, which will probably be more in terms of 'goal bonuses', it also sends out a statement to others that might be looking at him to keep their paws off!

To be honest I could not see Benjani leaving Pompey even if offers do come in for him in January - as have been 'reported' they will - as he is more than happy with us and us with him, not to mention that he has all the qualities we need, also the kind of qualities that we will never outgrow no matter how big we get.

looks like a good player, best to keep those boys in a happy lengthy contract cos he wouldnt have had a prob finding a new club, a good move by Harry on that signature

i love benji, he has always been one of my favourite pompey players. now that he is scoring too he is even more of a fans favourite - if that was possible... i always remember charlie nicholas really slagging him off one time, who's laughing now... i reckon we could see him finish his career with us, which still has a good few years to go yet.

although I think he is a freat player, i like him, but never been one of my favourtie players tbh, i do like him though, alot! I still laugh when he scores however, when pompey play away, and Im either watching or listening, I always laugh when he scores, and when I tell my dad, he just laughs and breaks into ''benjani woooah!! some thins will never chnage, and I dont think anyone will look at him without smiling!

Good news - hopefully he will stay with us - I love Benji too, did last season as well. He deserves a new contract.

We need players to committ to us, and stay if we are to progress into a top 10 outfit, and Benjy is the type of player that we need. His attitude has always been refreshing and he sets a great example to the rest of the team. It is a pleasure to watch him give his all every game, and he was absolutely nackered at the end of the Man City game which is typical of the man. I do hope that he signs a long term deal.

at the end of the summer transfer window, i read an articl by a man u fan completly slagging off benjani, and saying how it was playors like him who were causing the english national team to fail. i wrote an article then about it, saying how stupid this fella was, but anything i said has paled into insignificance compared to what benji has said so far this season.
14/11/2007 18:48:00
yep, signs like good, another report today of nugent wanted by derby again, absolutley sick of this, its good to players committing to teams then transfer talk.
14/11/2007 18:49:00
I read the same thing, it was an actually article wasnt it! pillock! Yep, i think though that the guy actaully wrote a further article apologizing about him! But yes, its players like benjani that inspire me when I play sunday league, never give up, great team player so on, and not like the likes of joey barton!
14/11/2007 18:55:00
the guy did write a follow up article...but that was more saying he was meaning "playors like benjani" not benjani in that would be playors like the leages top scorer? I play(ed) sunday league - never gave up, played for one of the biggest sunday league clubs in surrey, but had no chance of joining a decent team, as to do that, you have to live within 1 hour of a football team (some scouting law) and as such, despite going 2 seasons unbeaten, none of our clubs playors have ever been scouted.

which is why it really annoys me when harry says that kids dont want to play football anymore. he just needs to go down to his local park, and stand around for 5 minuites to see a game of football. goto his local school - bet a game of football is going on at break, football managers are really being seperated from reality...but this is getting irelevant...

A win at Wimbledon made sure of a play-offs place. Technically we can finish in the top 3 but this would require an unlikely set of results from too many clubs wouldn't it?
