Matty Taylor going nowhere

Harry Redknapp has spoken in The News to deny the weekend 'rumours' that Sunderland could make a move for Matty Taylor: 'I have not heard a thing from Roy Keane about Matt Taylor. I spoke to him only last Friday.

'He rang up to ask me about Newcastle before they played them.

'Matt Taylor was never, ever discussed.

'He has not played a lot lately but Niko Kranjcar has been playing well.

'He's not the only one who has been missing out'.

Taylor has found it hard to get into the Pompey side this season, in fact his 2nd half showing against City at the weekend was his first league involvement since the win at Blackburn around a month and a half earlier - so this has left many thinking he could go in January.

I had felt the same, and although he could well still go I am getting more confident as time goes by that the likes of Taylor and so on will stay and battle on for a place.

Granted, he is too good to sit on the bench forever, but I do not feel he will have to go through this throughout the entire season as he will get back in and when he does he will be hard to get back out again.

Yep all players want to play, this is what they do but they also want to be part of a successful side, but successful sides need to be built and for this you need to have a quality squad - but this squad does get fully utilised, and he is certainly a key member of this.

As previously pointed out by myself and others Taylor seems to understand and appreciate his current plight and is happy to keep plugging away until that chance comes, it came against City and he took it, which might see him start against Birmingham...

Matty would not gain much by going to Sunderland would he? He might get a regular game, but Matty has done the battling against relegation thing, and i am sure he wants to be in a successful team, if he is on song he will play, and he has to take his chance when it comes, which he did when he came on last Sunday and looked really sharp.

matty to spurs? maybe. matty to sunderland? no chance. and i dont think roy keane would want to come to portsomouth - nothing against pompey, but if i were him, i would be trying to forge out a career at sunderland before anything else... other than that, he is a great manager, great playor, and i have a lot of respect for him.

yep, im sure harry was aware of this, and so I can see him breaking the team soon, whether the expense of LB, or even when teh african cup of nations is on.

yes, but he was not exactl on the same league as matty (sure he played for man u...but so does wes brown). I wouldnt be surprised if matty didnt come in for utaka in the future - he looked very good on sunday, and utaka hasnt been playing that well lately...

i agree with you on taht one, utaka hasnt shown the promise recently taht he has at the beginning of the season, but I rate richardson quite highly, hes a quality young promise

Do we give the ball enough to Utaka? I feel that every time he gets the ball something is going to happen for us, and his partnership with Glen Johnson is a real strength, i hope he continues to play and we see how good he really is.

dont you think the partnership between glen and taylor would be better?

when utaka has the ball in our own half, i think he is going to do something special, race down the pitch, and grab a goal out of nothing. unfortunatly, when he has the ball in there half of the pitch, i think he is going to mck upa cross, and set the oposition on a break.

he always does that doesnt he, miss pass, needs to get more confidence in my view, to attack players in there end, it will surely get him more goals and assists.

greatr for away games, not so great for home games - you need to be able to put a decent ball into the box if you want to play agaisnt a team that is just going to sit back and defend - and from our last game, opositions wont mind giving corners away - they always come to nothing.

Never Liked Roy Keane so wouldn't want him as a manager. Can't see Matty wanting to jump into a relegation fight again either. He's earnt a break from that sort of thing.

jesus christ its the 'Gleamer and carpet show' here too :-) i know what you mean about 'being tired of hearing about matty taylor and his maybe leaving' im the same Gleamer, but with some actual official quotes coming from 'arry it seemed a good thing to report on - plus its a slightly different take on it as well, so not just the same thing reported over and over. hopefully this will be the last we have to hear of it tho... but i would not bank on it...

as much as matty taylor will want to play regular football, he is not just going to go anywhere is he, it will also have to be a sound football move - with respect to sunderland this is a total backwards move, not even a sideways one so its not gonna happen is it... like you Steve C ive never really been a fan of keane's but if he does the business and would one day want to come here as manager i might not object - but he will have his eyes set on united wont he...

What the hell is up in Sunderland, it's a dump. Matty is a top player, left footed, English & still young. We would mad to give him away.

I think by showing that he is prepared to sit on the bench and fight for his chance is showing that he is a real pro - His chance will come and when he gets back into the team he's gonna hard to shift..Not sure about replacing Utaka though .. Matty proved on Saturday that he can't play on the right.. and it would seen daft to swap wingers with Krunchy as his playing so well where he is .. umm could b interesting but I'm glad (for now) that it seems he's staying

if he doesnt play a part before, he certainly will when the african nations comes around - so when he does like we all keep saying he will be tough to shift again, then we will be calling for 'matty taylor for england' again!
