Harry Redknapp has spoken in The News to deny the weekend 'rumours' that Sunderland could make a move for Matty Taylor: 'I have not heard a thing from Roy Keane about Matt Taylor. I spoke to him only last Friday.
'He rang up to ask me about Newcastle before they played them.
'Matt Taylor was never, ever discussed.
'He has not played a lot lately but Niko Kranjcar has been playing well.
'He's not the only one who has been missing out'.
Taylor has found it hard to get into the Pompey side this season, in fact his 2nd half showing against City at the weekend was his first league involvement since the win at Blackburn around a month and a half earlier - so this has left many thinking he could go in January.
I had felt the same, and although he could well still go I am getting more confident as time goes by that the likes of Taylor and so on will stay and battle on for a place.
Granted, he is too good to sit on the bench forever, but I do not feel he will have to go through this throughout the entire season as he will get back in and when he does he will be hard to get back out again.
Yep all players want to play, this is what they do but they also want to be part of a successful side, but successful sides need to be built and for this you need to have a quality squad - but this squad does get fully utilised, and he is certainly a key member of this.
As previously pointed out by myself and others Taylor seems to understand and appreciate his current plight and is happy to keep plugging away until that chance comes, it came against City and he took it, which might see him start against Birmingham...
