Pompey to shift promoted hoodoo

Pompey will remain unbeaten to the teams promoted to the premier league for this season! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from Lysimachus' poll are thoughts that I do share.

We often slip up against the teams that come up, remember Watford last season what a carry on that was after the victory over United a few days earlier...

In order to ensure that we reach our true potential, with all due respect to these teams - Birmingham, Derby and Sunderland - they are teams that we cannot afford to be losing to this season. And we believe that we can go through unbeaten against them.

We came away from Derby with a point, we go to Birmingham after the international break - and we owe them one after our 5-0 thumping the year they went down! - and we go to Sunderland in January. Clearly none will be easy - and Derby was not as we found out - but remaining unbeaten away to them is crucial and we really should beat all 3 at Fortress Fratton... should we not?

What the poll asked - Will we be unbeaten to the promoted sides (Birmingham, Derby & Sunderland) for once this season?

How you voted - Yes 58%, Yes (to the point this poll seems pretty useless) 30%, No 12%

Current Poll - It is a make or break week coming up for England, around this time next week we will almost know - if we do not already - if England will go to Euro 2008 or not.

No matter how much you dislike Spineless Steve surely every England fan will be biting their fingers nails and praying Israel can do us a favour against Russia and keep our Euro 2008 dream alive? Providing Russia do not win qualification is still in our hands against Niko Kranjcar's Croatia when they come to Wembley - but can we still make it, this is want pompeyrug wants to know with this - 'will England qualify for Euro 2008' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

we probably should have beaten derby - but they were up for it that day, opening day and all... we owe birmingham so lets see how that goes then take it a game at a time, but i do think that we could go through unbeaten against these 3 this season.

WIth this current team and the way we're going right now - if we as fans don't expect to beat the newly promoted teams, then there'd be something wrong somewhere.

i mean no disrespect to the likes of sunderland, brum and derby but the days when we 'accepted' defeats to teams like this has gone. im not saying we are massively towering above them and have a devine right to beat them but we really shouldnt be losing to teams of this nature if we really want to be going places should we...

i picked the box, not bothered, only becasue I dont like to predict games! Your right though rug, the days are gone, when we accept a point from these teams

We should beat them, we are far better than any of the newly promoted teams. We do owe the Brummies one dont we, i must admit that on the way home from that game i thought we were going down.

i was thinking the same mate, i was also thinking that however, when it was 1 -1 at the city game.

well, so far, the polls have prooved relativly acurate at predicting results - hopefully we will keep it up! Pompey are always liable to freak results, i am always expecting us to muck up, and play badley, i dont know why...maybe its becuase i can then say "i told you so" if we do, and just join inthe party when we win...but all the same, we shouldnt be loosing to ANYBODY in this league. i know that sounds stupid, but we have a team capable of winning every game, so other than the odd slip up, we should go for long periods of time without loosing.

yep agreed, i hope in the next few years, i will be going to old trafford looking for a point

you mean you dont at the moment? Having watched pompey go to old trafford in the FA cup, and nearly beat them, i dont think we should go anywhere NOT xpecting a point. sure it adds pressurwe on the team, but the way we are playing, we shold be picking up points everywhere. off days excluded.

youve seemed to cahnge your tune carpet, wasnt it you who said, we will crumble if we lose to city, and we will lose that match : ), but yea agree with you, should be going into every game thinking that, but thinking and doing are two different tings, and manchester united on the day are unbeatable, and the FA Cup game... i agree could of won, i remember linvoy having a chance, i got that one recorded on my phone! if only he scored...

sure, (almost) any team on there day are unbeatable. and your right, i really do think that had we lost, we wouldnt have done as well in the next few games, and having ONLY drawn with man city, i dont think we will do as well as we could have done. Last season, pompey played so much in confidance. when we were at home, we went out, attacked, and played great football, but away, we went into the game thinking we were going to loose, and subsequenly loosing. this season, we have started so well, home and away - although as we fal to keep up the home games, i dont see the points coming in as readily as i would like. on our day, we should at the very least get a point against anyone - its just how often we have good days.

ye, suppose, but home games shouldnt be a worry, surely? were pompey for god sake, and yet, looking at our last three results...should there be room for concern?

my point exactly. 3 home games that were there to be won - but our confidence fell through, kranjcar didnt have the confidence to say "im taking it", no-one could find the net, and suddenly, we are 6 points worse off.

yep, i think that wont regret these points, as other teams are slipping up all the time, but still, 6 points!! and easy points

I'm back to stop the rot.. only joking fellas - you make some very good points Carpet & Gleamer - It's odd isn't it if were we still considered relegation fodder we would be really concern about the last couple of home games and although I was/am gutted that we could have beaten Liverpool, West Ham and City I am still ok with the fact that we are still unbeaten at home, but things must pick up starting from the next home game ..but that aint goona be easy either. I think the main point of the article is correct in as much we should expect not to lose against the newly promoted side and should be looking for around 17 points from these games.. Lets hope we get three when we play Brum next week..

the least that i would expect from these sides during a season is 12pts - anything less will not be good enough tbh, harsh as it may sound... we should now be looking at getting 16 this season shouldnt we.

speaking of 'relegation fodder' Chix, when placing a few cheeky bets before the city game - that was a waste of money! - i couldnt help but check out relegation odds and with around 10 teams, maybe more on offer including everton and newcastle, pompey were nowhere to be found! who would have thought, that even odds of something 100-1 wouldnt have even been put to our name - not on there at all, another sign of our progress...
