Spineless announces his final squad?

Spineless Steve has announced what could turn out to be his final England squad for the friendly with Austria, then the final Euro 2008 qualifier with Croatia - and it includes David James and Sol Campbell once again.

James and Campbell had both been in all his squads since their recalls after over a year in the cold, but despite such cries for James to be given the no.1 spot he has so far not managed it - surely his time will come now and he will start one, if not both games...

Campbell had not been able to make a playing return until last month when he played in both of the Euro 2008 games with Estonia and Russia - being absolutely fantastic against Russia - so he is a near certainty to start the Croatian game, with both Rio Ferdinand - suspension and John Terry - injury missing out, but I would expect him to sit out the friendly with Austria before this - as he cannot afford to miss the qualifier, assuming it is still relevant at that point?

Glen Johnson and Sean Davis will have to wait for another time for their recalls, although to be honest neither were realistically going to make it this time were they, well maybe Johnson could have?

David Beckham proved his fitness by coming through a 'gruelling' charity game in America last week, so he is back.

But most importantly of course the priceless commodities that are Wes Brown, Stewart Downing and Alan Smith are included - phew I worried for a minute this key trio would miss out...

Do you think Jamo will actually get the chance he deserves this time, or will McClaren just carry on with Robinson regardless?

No Robert Green... I think I'm going insane now

Pretty hard to figure isn't it HenryW15. He looked like the Berlin Wall against Pompey a couple of weeks back & is surely the best young keeper England has, so why not bring him along ? On the other hand, any young goalie with big future plans may not even want to be in a deck chair on the Titanic.

Green did have a good game against us, but didn't James in that match as well? And against Newcastle - and Fulham and . . .

Sorry to be a merchant of doom, but I think all this is really bad for Jamo's focus. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a poor game on Sunday. I really hope not though!

Toronto the Berlin wall was dmolished in 1989 perhaps that is why Green missed out ;-) tbh nothing makes sense with Spineless squads form counts for nothing as Rug says the same old players appear every time. Green was good against us, for sure, as HR would say but he has to produce that form for 12 months to make the squad as Jamo proves. But once in the squad it dosn't matter how bad you are you will stay in as Robinson proves!!

Dave, tbh, Green has been in superb form since towards the end of last season. Accepting Jamo is #1, it's beyond belief that Green's not in the squad. Utterly astonishing that Brown, Downing and Smith are in the squad. Beckham's inclusion is a joke, especially as McClown was effectively the one who sent him into exile after the World Cup. Part of me hope they fail miserably, if only to get rid of McClown but the patriot in me wants them to succeed.

he hasnt leart from his mistakes, as only monly picked barry becuase of media pressure, and sol becasue of injuries. he has his set of 11 playors, and loves them to bits. he wont accept that he is wrong, and so will never be a good manager. jamo wont play, gree wont when mclaren is manager (not long to go!!!), and jamo will only when someone is injured.

Spineless has done it again, why Beckham is in the squad, only the manager knows, he is probabaly justifying his jolly to the USA. Downing is another joke, you could almost believe he plays for Boro. Without Rooney we will struggle, i am dreading that weekend, and i can see us not winning and Russia getting the result that they need.

i am also gutted we will go out - and will be supporting croatia for the tournament...having won a "tough group". i mean, andora, estonia, israel...all well known, good footballing sides! i read that the fa would hold a meeting if we didnt make it "contemlating wheher to sack mcclaren." contemplating? CONTEMPLATING???

The FA are a bunch of overpaid stuff shirt know nothings. They never hire anyone who has an ounce of gumption. Even if they fire McLaren (which will only happen if the public & press create such a stink that the board members of the FA risk being lynched), they won't hire anyone worth having such as Allardyce or Murinho just as they refused to hire Brian Clough. They enjoy " yes " men (Maclaren etc); they enjoy promo gimmicks (Beckham, etc); they enjoy stroking the egos of the big clubs without actually analysing the potential contributions of the players from those clubs who will get capped because of who they play for, not what they could actually contribute to the team as a whole. It's unacceptable that the nation that invented the game and which hosts the world's most prestigious league cannot overcome a bunch of lesser light nations to gain entry to the European Cup. I don't blame that on Maclaren, I blame it on that bunch of cravat wearing ponces who insist on picking servile managers like him. There's my Friday afternoon rant ! have a great weekend lads.

I see no reason what so ever to not take a punt on him now!! hes look fantastic for Arsenal now hes playing!...I sooooooo dispise McClaren!!!!!!

agree with what you have said Toronto4Pompey... it is looking increasingly like we will not make euro 2008 but until croatia and russia play the 2nd to last fixtures its still possible that a win over croatia could be enough, as we might put them out yet - as unlikely as it might seem - either way i would love both jamo and sol to play a part in this match.

rob green will play not jamo and i agree with that, sadly at his age Jamo cant be the future. I think this will also most likely be Sol's last game so i hope to see one of his traditional trademark headed goals, he has been the class of the last two games and i would love to see himfinish with a flourish. As for spineless MacClown, well he might just pull it off yet, but with his squad selection you have to wonder if he really believes in himself.

Whta's worse... Russia lose to Israel, we beat Croatia and Spineless stays another two years (at least) ...... Russia lose to Israel and we lose to Croatia (Robinson error) we don't go through and Spineless gets sacked? ......What's more likely to happen is that Russia beat Israel so it doesn't matter anyway, we lose to Croatia confirming the fact that it didn't matter anyway and Spineless keeps his job for another two years (at least) confirming that the FA are a bunch of ...

like someone said above, we have croatia to support! It will be very interesting to see what nikos form is like for his country, but it wont compensate for the anger which is building up towards the FA, the thing which really gets my goat?, is that they dont apologize, and even now, when were almost certain not to qualify, there hiding away from interviews, and whenever they get trapped, the back the feckin crazy gimp whos running the team, why did they choose him, why?

clearly i want mcclaren out if i didnt i would stop refering to him as 'spineless steve' even in my articles but as much as i might sometimes say 'i hope we dont make it so he goes' i dont mean it, i would be devistated if we dont qualify for euro 2008 - even tho if we do we will fail horribly as always despite all the hype before hand... croatia might not qualify Gleamer - that is still possible, i think they play macedonia before us, so if they lose and we beat croatia too it doesnt matter what russia do we will go through and i think croatia go out! ideally for kranjcar's sake i hope we both make it, and israel wont be easy for russia will they...
