Benji has to keep scoring to stay in

Benjani has basically been given a 'keep scoring or you are out' ultimatum by Harry Redknapp after what he told The News: 'he's always done well, held the ball, worked and ran the channels.

'I can't honestly say I thought he'd be where he is now, though.

'He and Kanu have been vying for that spot up front.

'So he has to keep scoring goals to keep him out, because Kanu's a fantastic player'.

We all know that Redknapp is a big fan of Kanu's and I mean a big fan, he literally loves the fella - and admits as much himself - so at the first opportunity he can I have no doubt he will have Kanu back in... so it is down to Benjani to keep him out.

I like Kanu do not get me wrong, I just feel he is lazy - but we knew this when we signed him, but you cannot doubt his genius. But personally I do not think that he offers us much more, if anything more at all than Benjani does, in fact to be honest I think we lose something if Kanu gets the nod, particularly with the 'lone striker' system we are playing.

I have said it before, but will say it again Benjani would be one half of any strike pairing Pompey play for me, but if we are only going to play the one then I am sorry Kanu, but this would be Benjani almost everyday of the week for me as I maintain the thoughts that I have always had, Kanu could make a huge impact from the bench…

Such has been Benjani's rise this season some paper gossip has linked him with a £7m move to Juventus in January - just another of the many things - even in rumour format - that you did not think you would see with Pompey in the same caption just a few months back isn't it.

With players of this quality it is a nice problem for HR to have. Think Benjy to Juventus is wide of the mark though.

yep probably so... but its nice to think it could be the case - so long as it didnt happen. hypothetically, say it was true no doubt you wouldnt blame him if he went but i dont think that he would tbh...

i think that harry knows that kanu is a super sub now, but puts these stories out to put a little bit of pressure of benji, so that he doesnt get relaxed and lazy.

managers all have differnt ways of doing things. Harry will put pressure on playors when they are doing well, but take pressure off the team (and thus him) so as to lure opositions into a sence of comfort - we all must learn to live with it (after all, we could have had mourniho - the master of the mental game as our manger)

Gleamer, thats a good theory mate and one i hope is true - kanu is best utilised from the bench - in my opinion - so hopefully 'arry knows this now too?

Pompeyrug, can you put down Benji, Niko and Kanu as scoreres against Man city in the prediction league for me please and the final score to be 3-1. sorry for pre empting your game article. Just so people know i have asked rug to post predictions for me as i cannot accesss the forum section here in Dubai as the adverts attached are blocked by the local sensor. I can't see why 'arry insists on playing Benjani anyway when he has Kanu fit and raring to go. To me it's a no brainer Kanu offers us so much more up front compared to the lack lustre player Benjani is - Sure he might have scored a few goals this season but they have been gifted to him on a plate. Kanu works tirelessly for the team and his blistering pace and non stop running are what makes all the difference. We are where we are because of Kanu's goals and the sooner everybody realises that it is Kanu and not Benjani who is responsible for our great results so far this season the better - Kanu.. my Player of the Season so far by miles..... NOT

Seriously... I think this is more of a play from ;arry to deflect the attention from Benji as all of a sudden opposing managers must be looking at him (and Pompey as a whole) and thinking 'How do we stop 'em' .. great innit.... Other teams are now worried about playing Pompey and in particular facing our frontline.. Long may it continue
