The end is nigh for Matty Taylor...

Matty Taylor is a huge crowd favourite with Pompey - he is most certainly one of my favourites - but I think most of us would concede that the writing is on the wall for him now and it is looking more likely than not that he will leave, probably in January...

Indeed over the weekend there had been more speculation that other premier league clubs were looking at him, with Reading reported as being prepared to cough up £5m, with West Ham, Fulham and Boro also said to be in the queue. Spurs are long term admirers, so if he is available they could come in again, with Villa and Everton also linked in the past.

I would love Taylor to stay, but he is too good to sit on the bench, as I feel if he gets a run in any side then he is good enough to play for England, but from the looks of the direction we are taking it is going to be increasingly hard for him to feature for us.

After seeing Noe Pamarot against Blackburn in the league cup, coupled with Taylor's 2nd half showing as his replacement he looked nailed on to start against Newcastle last weekend but Harry Redknapp stuck with Pamarot - with him being completed vindicated with his decision.

For whatever reason he just cannot get into the side, even when there appears a chance for him, but with Niko Kranjcar being absolutely fantastic in his roaming role, which starts on the left, Sulley Muntari then next in line to go out on the left and Pamarot seemingly the preferred left back when Hermann Hreidarsson is out it does not look good does it fellas.

To be honest I have now basically adopted the attitude that Redknapp has a vision and he knows what direction we are heading in and what this direction means in terms of players, so as much as I would want Taylor to stay if Redknapp decides it is time for him to go I will reluctantly accept this, but it will be a very, very sad day if/when it happens...

I would like him at the Lane, but with Ramos here now, I doubt we will carry on our interest!
Real Deal
tbh - without looking at him in a biased view - i think quite a few clubs would like matty taylor play for them wouldnt they... so he shoulnt be short of offers if he is allowed to leave in january.
pompeyrug
Hopefully he won't leave unless he wants to go. A lot of clubs will want him, £6m+. He has been a hero for us since the championship wiining season but time moves on & sentiment is not part of the game anymore.
storagematt
I heard Curbishley wants him at West Ham.
NinjaTim
agree with everything you have said storagematt, the real key thing being 'if he wants to go'...
pompeyrug
dont want him to go.....:(:(....I love matty (man love that is!) bit, I cant see him wanting to stay if he cant get a game at either of his positions!!
CharlieChimes
I love Matty to bits and hope that he sees his future here at Pompey, we're playing well at the moment but an injury to krunchy would mean a chance for matty, there's nobody else to fill that wide left berth. Come January there will be 3 places up for grabs in midfield with Diop, Muntari and Utaka off to Africa, could perhaps put Krunchy in the middle or wide right and play matty wide left. it's imperative that we maintain the quality of the squad if we are to maintain this seasons form.

I would ironically like to see him leave, if harry doesnt have him in first team, i hate to see him on the bench, and it is gut wrenching to see him warm up, not with the first 11.
PompeyGleamer
I've been worried for a while that he will want to go, and in fact I think he's too good for the bench, so couldn't blame him if he did go, he has to think about his own career. This time last year he had England aspirations. Who agrees that if he'd been playing for . . dunno, Spurs, Newcastle, Everton over the last 12 months he would be in the England side by now? I really hope he stays though - and gets a regular starting place back.
tracyc
The lad deserves first team football, so it certainly looks like he'll move in January as has been said. No doubt he's got plenty more blinding goals and crosses left in him, but I've never been one hundred percent convinced by his defensive qualities.
Tantona
With all due respect to Nico, it would be insane to let Matty go. He is one of our more versatile players and makes things happen. With a bit of imagination, there's no reason why Arry couldn't play a real 4-3-3 with Kranjcar up front & Matty on the left side of midfield once in awhile. 6 million quid is not enough for a player of his calibre in any event. I'm also *****ed that even as a sub he's not seeing any playing time. I'm all for the New Age pompey and therefore could ultimately come to accept GON being shunted off, but the line has to be drawn somewhere.
Toronto4Pompey
he's good but not that good - let him go
WalshWasGod
He wll go if HE wants to go - we wont stop him - but if he doesnt want to go, he will stay. The club are very mercinary bout there signings, if they want them, they come, if not, they go - but i really cant see us wanting matty to leave. and i really cant beleive how little he has played this season!!! He was my favourite playor from last season - how can he not make the side (other than my favourite playor from this season taking his spot). I would love to see him come in at left back - as he is just as good as herman and noe defensivly.
pompeycarpet
i agree toronto, harry is transforming the team, but although I like our current squad, there is a theme. Big black footballers, with a big work ethic. the game agaisnt newcastle saw two white footballers. Now, I am not implying anything, but perhaps this is the reason why Taylor isnt getting in, harry prefers the ''modern'' footballer, strong, quick and powerful, and to the africans credit, they seem to be modelled around them
PompeyGleamer
but matty has a better work ethic than kranjcar, and is probably more phsical...
pompeycarpet
yes, I see your point on that one, but who is an overall better player?
PompeyGleamer
who is better? mendes of papa smurf? its a very tough call - although matty could also come in for herman o paramot - and i beleive he would do a better job than either of them.
pompeycarpet
yes. he would do, but he is a better LM the LB.
PompeyGleamer
tbh i have always beleived that matty taylor could play as a left back or left midfielder in equally as good a standard in both... but left back is his weaker area, but playing with kranjcar in front of him is now something that i think could work - now that kranjcar has learnt he has defensive duties too... i think the 2 could compliment each other.
pompeyrug
....Come on fellas let's get used to the fact that he's gonna be off.... It's no secret there's not much love lost between 'arry & Matty and if Taylor wanted a signal he has had at least two this season ... Krunchy playing ahead of him on the left I think he could probably live with, but Herman and then Pamorot at left back ahead of him must really dent his pride .... He'll go, we'll all be gutted but 'Harry has a plan and Matty does not feature in it ... We all know Harry freezes player out and this is exactly what is is doing with Taylor......... I hope I'm wrong though !!
Chix
its like i said in the article mate - i might not like it and might not want him to go but 'arry has a vision in the direction he is going and if this doesnt include matty taylor then i will accept his decision... he has been proved right thus far has he not?
pompeyrug
I think we need to get Harry and Matt talking. Maybe send them over to Jeremy Kyle to get their differences sorted. Most problems in relationships are caused by a breakdown in communication between people.
Pompeyscum
good idea mate - altho that jeremy kyle fella gets right up my nose at times...
pompeyrug
We need a strong squad, and Mattys turn will come, he has to be patient as other players are in other squads, we all know that Matty is a good player and very soon he can be in the side and proving to the boss that he deserves to be in the team not the squad.
Owenspompey
he seems to understand the situation doesnt he - so hopefully that is enough for him to remain patient and want to stay... altho if 'arry does want him to go he will wont he.
