Cranie pledges future to Pompey

There has been some talk that Martin Cranie could make his move to QPR a permanent move in a £2m plus switch to Loftus Road but he has told The News that he has no intention of leaving, as he sees his long term future with Pompey: 'I don't know anything about me joining permanently though. I wouldn't be interested anyway.

'I definitely see my future at Portsmouth; this is just an experience for me. I just want to go out and get games and show everyone what I can do.

'This is just a loan thing for me, nothing else, and when the three months are up I will return to Portsmouth'.

He has earned rave reviews at QPR playing in a central defensive position - so another position in which he can play - with them keeping 4 clean sheets in 5 games with him playing there.

I really do like the look of the fella, I have been impressed with what I have seen so far and his versatility to play literally anywhere across the back four or in midfield could be worth so much to us in the future, what is more he is English - keeping an English band of players is crucial for Pompey.

He knows it will be hard to get into the side but he is prepared to battle: 'I signed a contract with Portsmouth in the summer and that's where I want to play. That's where my future is and I want to go back and get into the side.

'It's definitely doing me good and I'm looking forward to coming back to show what I can do.

'It's going to be tough but it's something I'm prepared to do'.

Yep, as he says he will have his work cut out to get into the side but he is only what 20, so he has years ahead of him and can make it, I have complete faith that he can and will succeed with Pompey.

He is an England U21 international, now a regular and I fully expect him to make the step up to the full side in the future, I really do think he has the talent and ability.

Richard Duffy came here with a huge reputation and so much was expected from his - which we might still get - but I get a different vibe from Cranie, I think this fella could be a star...

He has looked good at QPR from what I have seen of them recently. He has certainly been instrumental in turning their defence round and I am glad he wants to remain at FP.

If he can justify selection in the near future, he stays.

i think that he might still have a part to play this season - but i would certainly be looking more at next season and beyond tbh.

I reckon once he's back, and subject to GJ getting injured or suspended he could well get the nod over Lauren, who will probably want away in January along with Matty and Nugget.

PG disagree there. We didn't play well in first half against United. Once HR shook em up and changed it around we improved. Not MCs fault in my view.

Nugent and Cranie i feel were brought in to make a step up. Whether that be on bench with a sub appreances, loans or playing in the reserves is NOT all that counts. we have a better training regeim now too, so off the park they are still coming on leaps and bounds. And to be honest i think they are both being groomed for next season, so dont see either leaving. Matty however??? well he is likely to struggle now, as the side is moving on in quality. Like Gary O'Neil, he may be left behind in our players quality so moving may be a good thing for him?

havnt chel$ki got 3 players loaned out there now? anyway, this has brough back a memory from earlier in the seasonon regarding nuggent - i remeber him saying that he would rather fight to get into the pompey team than go out on loan. Nuggent and cranie were both bught with similer intentions: the future. Pompeys defence is (was) aging - but with johnson and cranie we now have two good young defenders. our attack was in a similer position (how old is kanu? 56?) - now we have nugent to add to benjani - so we are yong up front - and the midfield is already pretty young (muntari, kranjcar, etc.) - pompey now have a vision for the future, and like nugent, cranie is part of it.

i hope that both nugent and cranie are part of he future vision mate - as i keep saying i want nuge to stay but im worried... i like your thoughts also Midge... Gleamer cranie's substition against united was not a reflection of his performance was it - i thought that he had a good half, it was just a sacrifice that needed to be made. the fella has a big future and it will be here.

The kid has done well at Lotus Road and has also shined for the u21's .. I think he has a crackin' future and together with Johnson will form the backbone of Pompeys and (hopefully) Englands defence in years to come
