Benji should remain the lone ranger

Benjani will be the lone ranger if expected Harry Redknapp sticks with the 1 up front policy! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from pompeyrug's poll are thoughts I share.

In an away match Pompey will more often than not play a lone striker - like it or not - this is a near certainty to be the case against Newcastle at the weekend and most expect this to be Benjani.

Kanu is fit again now, so with Redknapp such a fan of his it would not surprise me in the slightest if he did return but to be honest I would stick with Benjani and hope that he does.

One thing that we know for sure is that it will be either Benjani or Kanu - as it is not likely to be David Nugent is it...

If you have not already made your predictions in the Pompey predictions league on this match do it here.

What the poll asked - It will almost certainly be '1 up front' against the barcodes - but who?

How you voted - Benji will stay in 70%, Kanu will return 25%, Someone else? 5%

Current Poll - David Nugent has had a tough time since signing for Pompey, will things get easier or is he living off borrowed time.

I think it is fair to say that the fast majority of us want him to be a success, but maybe we are a little worried about how things are going and will go still, but what do you think, expect or hope will happen to him, that is what the poll wants to know with this - 'Dave Nugent - what should, will or would you like to happen to him?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

PLAY UP POMPEY!

kanu should start, touch of a god!
PompeyGleamer
kanu isnt mobile enough as it is, if he is still carrying a bit of an injury he will be even less mobile - benji has the pace and power to trouble the barcodes, so if we get it right he could get in - or at least create space for the midfielders arriving... i would rather see kanu coming on in games tbh.
pompeyrug
I agree - I think Kanu is most dangerous for us these days coming off the bench (so long as he gets more than 10 mins). Then the opposition defenders have begun to tire and his quick thinking and wonderful touch can open all kinds of doors for us, as well a nick a few goals for himself.
NorthStandDan
perhaps, but kanu is something different, a peter crouch of a team, i think that we should have a go, because newcastles defence are very unstable and the pace of Utaka, and the touches and vision from kanu would really cause them problems.
PompeyGleamer
Utaka has bee poor in the last couple of games, he needs to get involved a bit more and come and demand the ball. He has the pace to trouble any defence, and he needs to put a performance in tomorrow to help us get something at Newcastle.
Owenspompey
totally agree Owenspompey...wasnt to imprest at the Blackburn game....I still love the way he can fly past defenders, only thing is he didnt seem to have a cross on him!!!....then Matty came on & showed us all how to cross a ball....I think if Muntari's out, we dont have anyone whos got a good cross starting.....I hope Matty starts at left back tomorrow!!
CharlieChimes
Play both upfront 442. Rest Utaka & bring him for the last 20-25 to terrorise the tired full backs.

Benji up front one his own is not what I like to see... it might be ok away from home but to watch it at Fratton is still somewhat defensive .. unless of course Utaka gets on his game (which he hasn't recently) Kanu is only worth 15 minutes at most and if he is brought on to, should play with Benji not replace him !! - I've never understood why Harry does that ...especially when other players are not performing - For the Newcastle game I think we'll see Benji up front as a lone striker...as has been the norm
Chix
well 'arry was proved right again with his tactics yesterday wasnt he - again!
pompeyrug
yep, certainly did
