Why was Benji taking the penalty?
I love Benjani to death but why was he taking the injury time penalty against West Ham?
Yep, we were poor in the match overall and we probably did not deserve to win, but when we were given an injury time chance to win the 3 points why was Benjani taking the spot kick?
He might have been the top goalscorer in the premier league at the start of the weekend but can too many people honestly say they were confident he would convert when he stepped up - I sure as hell knew that I was not. Sulley Muntari looked like he was going to be the man to take it, until it was 'decided' that Benjani would.
Surely who is going to take penalties should be decided before a game is played? It did not look as though it had been, as if it had then it was not Benjani and they went against the agreed plan.
I am not looking to point fingers, as I am a huge fan of his, but come on fellas we all know he should not have stepped up - how much damage could this now do to his confidence?
This is now 4 points that we have lost due to missed penalties, had we scored both we would have comfortable been in the top 4…

It was a disgrace and we all know Pompey being Pompey we will rue that miss and the one against Liverpool come the last week of the season.
There is no excuse for these misses, we are so bloody amateur at times.

do not fear, newcastle lost! blackburn are currently drawing with spurs and aston villa drew!! everton won though

We are beyond hoping for other results mate, we need to win and when we are given gifts like the penalties we need to score, thats where we really miss Dead Eye Matty.

completely agree mate, lets focus on what we are doing, not others - we need to worry about us dont we. god, what a poor penalty though eh fellas - its gets worse everytime. benji shouldnt have taken it and im sure he now knows this, put it behind us and move on... we could have been 3rd, but we are still 7th after 11 games so it aint all bad :-)

i suppose, but im just trying to cheer myself up, memories just keep flashing into my head, muntari or benji, no please god not benji, o no, crazy run up and a poor kick!

Krancjar should have taken it as in the Asian Cup. As I said in the other blog, Harry got outmanaged badly yesterday.

We have to learn from it. No point crucifying Benji over it, he will win us more points than lose. No doubt he'll score a few more to make up for it.

im hoping that it will work in the opposite way - it will make him even hungrier to succede... but not to want to take another penalty!
