Harry confirms Pedro's return

As Sean Davis is suspended this week someone needs to step in to fill the void, we all expected this man to be Pedro Mendes and Harry Redknapp has confirmed this in The News.

Mendes has not started for Pompey since the opening game of the season, but he will return to the starting line-up this weekend as Redknapp revealed: 'Pedro will come back in against West Ham - definitely.

'He's a good pro and a good player.

'The team's been winning lately and it hasn't been easy for him.

'But it's difficult to move it around when things are going well'.

Many of us want to see him, along with Matty Taylor back in the team, but with us doing so well if things do not really need changing it is fair enough that they are not, as the saying goes 'if it aint broke, don't fix it!'

Mendes has looked very hungry in the last two games that he has come on in so he will be determined to take this chance now that it has come up, if he does - as I am sure he will - Davis will then have to fight to get back in.

I was glad to hear Redknapp talk about not only Taylor, but also Richard Hughes too, as both have not played much this season, but are both still very much in his thoughts.

Redknapp was quick to point out how it has not been easy for them, but they will get a chance when injuries and/or suspensions crop up, stressing that it is 'a team thing', so much like the Mendes scenario neither can get in at the moment, but when the chance comes it will be down to them to take it - as I am sure they will as well.

Finally.

Oh great this competition for places. Show 'em what you can do Pedro. To be fair SD has had a greta season & has more than played his part in the shut outs.

It's odd thinking that Pedro Mendes has to now take his chance and secure a place in the starting XI when for so long he was an automatic choice - It's also odd thinking that when we lose a regular we don't panic about their replacement - Pedro (as we all know) is a quality player and will cover (or keep out Sean Davis) more than adequately - What chance of a Mendes thunderbolt on Saturday... might be worth a punt

not only will i now be putting money on a 3-1 pompey win, but also a mendes special - well maybe not special, but mendes goal but he doesnt score anything but specials does he...
pompeyrug
And rug Pedro likes to score against certain teams Man City and West Ham are two of them. Great player always has time on the ball.
eastneydave
yep, there is that too isnt there dave - even more reason to place a cheeky bet... i think that mendes is a great footballer, such a classy player, the kind of player that would always be in my starting 11 tbh.
pompeyrug
Yep, dont think i've ever known a quality squad at pompey. Lose arguably the most in-form player of the moment, but be able to replace him with quality like Pedro......the stuff of dreams!

Great to have Pedro back,he has ben one of the real stars over the last couple of seasons. I see the Hughsey is considering his future at the club, and i dont really blame him, he is a great squad player but would probably get a start in a Championship team and you can see his point, however i hope that he is persuaded to stay.
Owenspompey
Owens I think Hughsey would get a start in a lot of Premier teams too. Model pro never complains but as he says at his age he needs to be playing regularly and wants to move permanently.
eastneydave
i can see matty, hughes and traore goin. i cant see pedro going because by january he will be a regualer again, if he taks this opputinity and i think that nugent understands the situation and has the time to wait. plus hes on 40,000 a week or somethin ridiculus like that so i very much doubt that he is unhappy at the club.
PompeyGleamer
I reckon that you can add Lauren to the departures, but i dont think Hughsey will get a chance in the Premiership, i reckon if he goes he will end up like that traitor Quashie, basically at the end of his career.
Owenspompey
as much as i would like to keep both players i would sacrifice ralph and hughes if it ensured we kept others tbh.
pompeyrug
i agree, but i very much doubt that matty will stay, with his personal ambition of playing for england and many premiership teams would welcome him in their first team. perhaps a team like villa or even newcastle perhaps?
PompeyGleamer
Whoever goes.. and let's face it at least one or two... we need to replace them with players of equal if not better quality... our good start will attract these type of players because they will see european potential in our club
