Campbell looking for extended run

Campbell looking for extended run

Sol Campbell has told The News how he is back to stay with England, he does not want the Russia performance, which gained him much acclaim to be a flash in the pan: 'My performance was right up there.

'Not many people cannot play for their country for a long time and come back and play like they have never been away.

'I want to be part of it for as long as possible'.

Basically written off by England - be honest fellas even some of us had! - his undoubted faith in his own ability, highlighted by what he has said has got him back into contention.

With Rio Ferdinand suspended for the Croatia match Campbell is a near certain starter in his place - fitness permitting, where he should come up against Pompey teammate Niko Kranjcar.

This could be viewed as a last hurrah, but he has made it clear he is here to stay - so if he maintains his current form he will certainly do just that.

From an England point of view you want the youngsters, the next generation to come through but you cannot doubt the benefits of his experience to England can you and the obvious quality he has too, which will transfer to others, such as Joleon Lescott.

Clearly the priority for us is having Campbell play for Pompey, but the longer he can play for England too the more we will benefit - Pompey players in the England set-up will catch even more peoples eyes, which will then benefit our chances of others not only getting in as well but also those already within the set-up wanting to joining us - without fear of 'losing their place as they play for Pompey'...

We will need Sols experience for the game with Croatia and Austria especially if we have any chance of qualifying. He proves week in and week out what a good player he is, and he fully deserves his place in the squad and indeed in the team.

Two Pompey players playing against each other in a competitive international! When was the last time that happened?

Forgetting injuries & suspensions Sol deserves his place in the starting line up for the Coatia game on his performance against Russia alone - It'll be interesting to see what happens (assuming he has another first class performance) when both Terry & Ferdinand are both fit and free of suspensions... Will spineless keep one of his regulars on the bench in favour of an in form player - much the same as he has done with Gareth Barry?

Solid against Niko now that will be interesting to watch.... my bet is that Barry will probably pick up Niko anyway so we probably won't see much of a tussle betwee them.......

Top guy deserves all the credit he is getting. We were a top 10 side for all of last season & look at now. Why can't Sol & others justify international call ups? Whether we qualify fort he Euros or not. The World cup qualifers will start next September & we can't afford to fck that one up. So we will need the best players now to try & qualify. No reason why that can't be Sol & Jamo.

jamo and sol are showing no signs of wanting to step down from the international scene are they so i agree mate why shouldnt they be in contention to play a part in qualifying for and hopefully taking part in the 2010 world cup...
