Attention fully on Wigan now

Attention fully on Wigan now

With the internationals out of the way, or at least they will be after tonight and with them England's chances of qualifying for Euro 2008 hanging in the balance - I must say that I thought Sol Campbell was fantastic this afternoon though - we can turn our attentions fully to Wigan this weekend.

And what incredible support we will be taking, with 40 coaches containing 2000 supporters, thanks to the club laying on free coach travel to this game.

As a reward to the fans Sasha Gaydamak decided to dip his hand in his pocket - again! - to lay on this travel, which cost him more than £50,000. With the demand so high coaches have had to come in from all around, with it finally decided 40 had to be the limited - as the club physically could not get anymore!

I think this is a fine gesture, yet I have been amazed that so many people have still found time to moan because they could not go with no more coaches supplied, some even think the club are out of order for not getting anymore - but if they cannot get anymore coaches there is not much that they can do.

In any case at the end of the day it is not as if Gaydamak had to do this - the response from some could make him think again about such a gesture in the futureā€¦

Whatever though the fact is this will be the largest coach convoy of Pompey fans going to a match for 15 years, not since our FA cup semi final in 1992 have we had such a turnout - although for the FA cup match at Old Trafford in 2003 we took 36.

The JJB does hold fond memories for us, so hopefully it can have more this weekend when we hopefully win our third successive away league match - if you have not already made your predictions in the Pompey predictions league on this match do it here.

I had the same feeling against Fulham - I'm optimistic we'll just win. Four wins on the bounce will make other teams think twice surely.

not just 4 win on the trot, but 3 of these away would be fantastic wouldnt it - people would certainly think twice before writing us off again wouldnt they... i reckon we could win 3-1.

In all competitions, we've won the last 3 away games anyway, lol.

the danger is that wigan view it as a game where they should/need to pick up points. the best way to compare it is us playing against liverpool (at fratton). we view that as we should get points, and so do they. Wigan are a side whos results have not reflected there performances, and they certainly did not deserve to loose 4-0 to man u. and with us on a roll, there is a real danger of an upset. (upset being us loosing, not them!)

I agree with pompeycarpet on this one, there performances have been really improving and they will be confident of getting points against us. I would not be concerned so much if we hadn't had the internationals break but that can be a s0d for momentum. obviously i will be putting a tenner on us to win, but i am not sure which way i will go in the predictions league yet, but 3 league wins away on the bounce would look pretty, i cant remember when we last did that OVER TO YOU EASTNEYDAVE

As for coaches it is a good idea and loss leader sales ploy, and a good one at that. we have been getting less than full houses at home, less take up away and lets be honest for many of us money is tight, the idea is you get a good following when people are saving for festivities and you will maintain that core, you help them to help you. Unfortunately by the time i found out about the coaches i had already booked the flights up from gatwick for the morning... DOH !!!!
