Pompey's previous encounters

Pompey's previous encounters

With Vital Pompey always looking to evolve and move on another new feature, which I actually thought up when visiting the dentist once again - you may remember a previous visit a few weeks back which inspired an article, well it is that same tooth, the problem was not sorted as I thought!

Anyway, back to the point, an idea has been thought up and this will be implemented, hopefully coming into force immediately? But for this it will require your help.

Prior to the Fulham game eastneydave produced an article on a previous classic encounter with Fulham - the infamous 4-4 draw, after we were leading 4-0 at half time.

Well, this cropped into my head, with another 'dentist chair inspired moment' making me think why not open the floor up for anyone - and not necessarily limited to only one persons account of events - who wishes to write about a previous encounter with an upcoming opponent in the week prior to the game?

When matches come around, the opponents must make us all think of previous meetings with these opponents - some have very fond recollections, others maybe bad memories, but whatever they are why not share them nevertheless?

The Wigan match at the weekend must be full of the most magical memories for us all, for example I remember russellm speaking about his day out at the JJB, mostly after it, so this kind of thing in words shared with us all in article format would be fantastic and should get us all talking about this day and our memories of it.

When we face Sunderland at Fortress Fratton I will certainly write one for that as my first ever home match came against them, but I also fancy the away match too, as I also have very fond memories of a midweek trek I made to the stadium of light!

So if this appeals to anyone, please do share your thoughts and submit me an article - I will always use them.

Like I said this is open to anyone and is not limited to just one account either. The Wigan match this weekend in theory should be a great starting point?

Great idea Rug and after Dave's account of the the 4-4 v Fulham I'm sure they will get lots of comments and provoke a great deal of thought - I'll chip in with the odd on or two I'm sure, but knowing what peace and quiet is like in my house I'll have to get the 2009/10 season fixtures now to stand any chance of getting something in on time !!

Wigan will always conjure up the survival day of 2006. A fantastic moment in our recent history. I had to work thus missed the match. Suffered the first half on the interenet vidiprinter, watching them score first. Driving home on the motorway when we equalised & threw my arms in the air, forgetting the steering wheel for a moment. Pulling up to my house, switching on the radio as we take the penalty. Screaming the street down at FT. Family were out & neighbours were understanding. I was 39 at the time but I looked 70 by the the time final whistle went.

I was in the garden taking a break from the tension when Matty rolled in the penalty. It was greeted by a chorus of blaring horns and cheering from all over the area - a wonderful moment and it showed what Pompey means to the whole city.

Hartlepool (a) - Safety first!

A win at Wimbledon made sure of a play-offs place. Technically we can finish in the top 3 but this would require an unlikely set of results from too many clubs wouldn't it?
