Baring a training ground injury - which I would not wish on him - Spineless Steve is going to stick with Paul Robinson as England's no.1.
Yep David James is not against making the odd mistake, but how many of these have led to goals this season and the last for that, arguably even the one before that with Man City? The only real howler this season came against Reading - compare that to at least two major ones from Robinson in the last week or so alone!
My own thinking is Robinson is an accident waiting to happen, yep he might have 12 clean sheets in 14 international matches or something like that but my main worry is with the pressure really on this could be a risk?
Luckily we play Estonia first, so any mistake should be cancelled out, so if he is to do this, at least for the 'big one' against Russia this would be out of the way.
I suppose I can understand Spineless' reasons for wanting to keep Robinson as the no.1, but this 'protecting his fragile confidence' rubbish, it just that - if he is not up for it he should not be there! Clearly I will not be wishing a mistake on him as I want England to win and qualify but I am worrying.
Past international records have to be taken into account but surely current form has to be taken into account too? A striker - unless he is of course Michael Owen - will not be selected if he is not scoring will he, so why should a keeper be selected if he is not performing - if he is conceding goals, with him being at fault too?
What else does James - or for arguments sake someone else - have to do to be given the chance that they deserve? And how many more errors does Robinson have to make before he is taken out - does he need to make that high profile error in a competitive game for this to happen?
