You guessed it - new striker please

You guessed it - new striker please

Pompey needs to improve on the strikers that we have! Not my vote, yours - although these findings from muffdaddy1983's poll are thoughts that I do share, but maybe not exclusively.

Little surprises eh, but most think that we need to get a new striker to improve our squad, which yes I would agree with, however in terms of the formation which we are currently playing would this really be beneficial?

Even playing 4-3-3, as with a 4-5-1 formation we are only playing one out and out striker so I cannot fully understand what the benefit of signing a striker would bring? He would have to be a real - and I mean real - goalscorer to be the one striker selected wont he - and ahead of anyone we currently have at that.

To be honest with Benjani, David Nugent and Kanu I would say we have enough even taking into account the African Nations if we carry on with the current formation. So in order to fully justify a new striker in January my own thinking is we would have to go back to a 4-4-2 to fit not only him in, but also one of the 3 out and out strikers we currently haveā€¦

What the poll asked - Where do you think Pompey need to improve?

How you voted - Strikers 65%, Nowhere 16%, Goalkeeper 6%, Manager 6%, Defence 4%, Midfield 3%

Current Poll - We all know that Fortress Fratton generates the best atmosphere in the world from the best fans in the world too even if the facilities are 'lacking slightly!'

We all have a favourite away ground - do we not - in terms of facilities, how we are treated and how good the atmosphere is from their home fans? But which is the favourite from the list on offer, this is want NinjaTim wants to know with this - 'which is/was the best ground; considering facilities, treatment of away fans & atmosphere generated by home fans?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

The full title of this poll would not fully fit into the polls title, but you get the point.

but DO we need another striker? if we only play 1 up front, and we have 3, then surely that is enough? sure, if we decide to go for 4-4-2, 4 decent strikers (as spurs have) would be nice, but do we really need that?

unless we revert to 4-4-2 as i said in the article is it really worth signing another striker - 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 leaves us with enough options as it is doesnt it...

Alan Biley is the assistant manager of Corby Town, ask Dave he will confirm this, or look on their website!! Course a new striker would be nice, and the higher up the table we are the bigger he will be, how are Sevilla doing in Spain? they are struggling and the rumour is that Kanoute is not a happy bunny, could that move be back on?

sod kanoute - i would rather we aimed alittle higher, certainly a little younger, particuarly when we think what they will be after... tbh i would only want a proven goalscorer to come in - kanoute isnt that is he...

We DO need another striker - otherwise we are restricted to playing 433 or 451 all season - It may be working now but there's no gaurantee it will continue to do so - We need the flexibility of being able to adapt game on game - Just look at who we have got - 1. Kanu ... good (according to some quarters... not mine) but aint gonna last a season - let's face it, he's too lazy and too slow. 2. Nuggent - Excellent potential but at the mo we just don't know if he can be relied on to score week in week out - Untried in the prem. 3. Benji - Started to find the net (and long may it continue) but if he gets crocked ??? The bottom line is that if we are serious about challenging for cups and european places we need strength in depth and fleibility of style of play - The three strikers we have, as good (debatable) as they are, are hardly of the calibre of our main competitors - Sasha .. get your cheque book out and ready to sign Defoe in January - If he want;s to play on Euro 2008 (assuming we qualify) he'll need to have regular football... where better place that with Pompey.

so long as we do play a 4-4-2 then yep i fully agree it is both fruitful and certainly worth getting another striker, who wouldnt want this - but surely if we do 'arry will have to go back to this, he couldnt continue to play a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3...

Chix watch it mate, russ will call you a Defoist, but he must be getting cheesed off at Spurs on the bench, but would he really come to us. i would love to see him at Fratton.

Evans - Right back or right midfield?

Drew Talbot and Adam Buxton are fit but Gareth Evans continues to fill in at right back. Should this change? If so where would it leave the battle between Evans and Carl Baker?
